PURPLE PATCH: It’s a huge week of racing at the Ebor Festival at York and so we decided to take a look at the trends over the last five years.

Who pops the cork at York?

The Ebor meeting at York is one of Flat racing’s summer highlights and for many is the second biggest festival of the entire calendar, only bettered by Royal Ascot.

This year’s meeting looks set to be another cracker with quality horses wherever you look and at BETDAQ we’ve been back through the jockey, trainer and owner who have been most potent on the Knavesmire.

Perhaps unsurprisingly the jockey with the best strike rate over the past five years is the one and only Frankie Dettori.

The Italian has a healthy 24% strike rate at York, winning 10 of his 28 races since 2016, and as always, he’s got another strong book of rides this year, including Stradivarius and Golden Pal.

And given Dettori’s success here, it’s not surprising that the trainer he often teams up with, John Gosden, has a very potent record too.

Gosden has a strong 28% strike rate over the past five years and he’ll be hopeful of adding to that this week.

Finally, the leading owner in the aforementioned period is King Power Racing.

The blue and white silks have become very common in the winners’ enclosure at York with 13 of their 59 runners (22%) getting their noses in front.
