Ah yes, the Foxtrot is a smooth, progressive dance characterized by long, continuous flowing movements across the dance floor. This fits Ballyana Foxtrot’s name perfectly as his continuous flowing movements around Shelbourne Park last night were jaw-dropping. 29.39, the fastest time recorded so far in this years Derby and it was dynamite to watch.

There were some shocking exits last night and also some surprising winners. Fordeflag won @ 20/1 and the bookies must of had a beeno with only one jolly winning Kippers Usain for Pat Buckley, who recorded a fabulous double with Paradise Maverick also. Pat has a tremendous kennel of dogs this year and they are all running great, fair play to you Pat but after finding this picture below on twitter, I really do think you should stick to the day job!! Wonder what fish he is feeding his dogs to make them run so well, perhaps kippers for Kippers Usain?! What did the fish say when he posted bail? “I’m off the hook!” haha

Sarah - Fish Man

Anyway, I was way off with my predictions for heat 6 & 7 as Vimmerby, Sidaz Pedro and Millridge Leader made their exit. Heat 7 saw Tyrur Nathan, Jacks Ace and Highview Ranger go home but what a run from Kisses For Cloda for Ollie Bray from Navan Co Meath. He is running super for Ollie and displayed a fine run in 29.54 @ 4/1. I wonder if Ollie will be supporting the Dubs in the All Ireland this year? Ollie’s two nephews Stephen and David Bray, son’s of Ollie’s brother Joe, both play for Meath but had their Leinster dreams shattered when Dublin bet them 3-20 – 1-10 last month. (sorry lads had to be done)!

Was chatting to another Navan man last night ,Ian Reilly. He had no luck with his runner On Alert but he said its hard to pick a winner in the Derby this year but he likes Holdem Spy and thinks there is more to come from this dog. My Dad likes Paradise Maverick and Hawaii Kinsale and was impressed with their runs.

Took this picture of one of the regulars relaxing in Shelbourne, thought I would share it with you. Ladies and Gentlemen I give you, The Leaning Man:

Sarah - The Leaning Man

Heats that stand out to me this Saturday are heats 9, 10 & 12

Heat 9
1 Droopys Ward
2 Whizzing Archie
3 Ardfert Thunder
4 Barnhill Turbo
5 Blenhiem Cracker
6 Mind The Net (w)

No contest here I think. Mind The Net should run away from them and he is running out of his skin. English Derby runner up Droopys Ward to be second and is rightly housed in trap 1. Whizzing Archie or Blenhiem Cracker to be third, if Archie repeats his previous form he will have the advantage to qualify. 6-1-2

Heat 10
1 Ghost Town
2 Borneo (m)
3 Razldazl Al (m)
4 Nans Top Boy (m)
5 Droopys Nidge (w)
6 Change Of Gear (w)

I am going to vote for Droopys Nidge, this dog excites me when I see him running and I think he is too good for the rest of the field. Ghost Town is ideally housed here and should get the bend as Borneo may go wide and give him room. Razldazl Al has some nice gears and may be the leader. 5-3-1

Heat 12
1 Kereight King
2 Green Prince
3 Band Major
4 Barefoot Agent
5 Ecclestone (w)
6 Clares Wonder (w)

Can Kereight King return to his best form and try and claim the throne? I don’t think so as much as I would like to see it. Green Prince is a little flyer to the bend and if he leads Kereight King to the bend he has a chance. Clares Wonder ran a great race last week against Tyrur Supermac and might just be good enough to win this race. Band Major only gets going from the second turn onwards and might find it difficult to pick these up and there is a lot of early to his inside? 6-2-1

Lesson for the day:
Greyhounds originated in Ancient Egypt and were originally bred to hunt large game including antelopes, wolves and deer. The greyhound found its way to America with the first English settlers.
I look forward to seeing you all Saturday for more fantastic, mind-blowing, thrilling, spine-tingling racing.

Toodles,

Sarah
