LISTED RACE ACTION AT DUNDALK: SHAMROCK previews the race of the night, the Listed Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Star Appeal Stakes over seven furlongs at Dundalk.

Apologies for the lack of a selection yesterday.

My main pick was Loch Ard Lady but because it was a reserve – I had to wait and in the end it was a non runner in the opener at Tramore.

Whilst we’re on the subject, I’m not a great fan of the reserve system. I think it works more for connections of horses than it does for punters. I completely understand why it’s in place – to give as many horses a chance of competing as possible but from a form study point of view it does play havoc and creates an unlevel playing field for those punting before and after reserves are know.

Yesterday was a classic case in point – I fancied Loch Ard Lady but didn’t fancy much of the rest so it became a no bet race.

Dundalk stage a Listed race on the Polytrack tonight and the race has attracted a field of just six runners with Aidan O’Brien’s Giovanni Boldini a warm favourite. He landed the odds to make a winning debut here and subsequently ran a cracker in the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh to finish third to Toormore with Sudirman second.

That’s top class form and safe in the knowledge that we know he handles the Dundalk tonight he’s a big bet for me at around 1.52 on BETDAQ.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Giovanni Boldini (7.50 Dundalk)
