GRADE 2 ACTION AT NAVAN: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the Grade 2 novice hurdle, the highlight of Friday’s card at Navan.

The Grade 2 novice hurdle at Navan really lights up the card this afternoon with five of the seven runners winners last time out.

It’s a very competitive heat and one in which even the outsiders can be given a squeak on some lines of form.

The key really is distance and ground (as always) and this will be a real stamina test over the two and a half miles on prevailing soft to heavy ground.

Those were exactly the same conditions that Henry De Bromhead’s Holymacapony won over on debut at Punchestown where he couldn’t have been more impressive beating Gaillard Du Mesnil by eight lengths with a further 19 and 15 lengths back to the third and fourth.

It was an absolute rout and he is clearly a horse of huge potential and was also a winner of his sole Point start.

The only real negative is that this represents a big step up in class but the same comment applies to many of his rivals.

Willie Mullins has won six of last the last nine, so on that basis alone his Fighter Allen has to be respected. He is another Punchstown winner, although at face value not as impressive as Holymacapony.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE brand ambassador Gavin Cromwell puts in a good word in his blog for Gabynako who he thinks will be suited by the trip.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Holymacapony (1.35 Navan)
