100/30 WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK landed his nap (and only bet) on Thursday with OUR MAX (NAP) WON 100/30 in the final race at Laytown.

“Oh I do like to be beside the seaside……… !!!”

Nice result at Laytown yesterday when the nap Our Max obliged at 100/30.

A huge weekend of racing in Ireland and the weather looks set to have the biggest say of all.

The battle between Golden Horn and Gleneagles in the Qipco Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown tomorrow is still very much dependent upon the elements.

John Gosden trainer of Golden Horn said: “We go to Ireland and I’d very much like to run. If it’s good or good to soft ground we’ll run. If it goes very, very soft, I’ll walk that track about three times until my wellies fill up and then make a decision. I’ll go over late morning and walk the track.”

Leopardstown officials announced this week that the Irish Champion Stakes will be run an hour earlier than originally scheduled in an attempt to ensure the main event is run on the best possible ground.

Gleneagles has missed a number of high profile races this summer because of the ground and again is likely to be subject to a late call by trainer Aidan O’Brien.

Last year’s winner The Grey Gatsby could also miss out if it turns out soft at Leopardstown. Trainer Kevin Ryan said: “We’re keeping an eye on the ground. He’s in great form and we’d love to run him, but he won’t run if it’s soft. We’re in the lap of the gods.”

My best bet today is Anania in the opener at Down Royal. The filly has been running well in much better class races than today and should lose the maiden tag here.
