DOUBLE LISTED ACTION AT TIPPERARY: SHAMROCK previews the two Listed races on tonight’s card at Tipperary. The going is soft (soft to heavy in places).
Two Listed races on the Tipperary card tonight:
5:35 Kilfrush Stud Abergwaun Stakes (Listed) (3yo+, Class 1, 5f, 10 runners)
UK raiders have a good recent record here and Robert Cowell sends a pair over who both can be given a chance. Speed Hawk looks the stable first string. He is a regular at Listed level and also finished third in a Group 3 at Meydan but has never been tried on ground as testing as this throughout his career. Cowell’s other runner is the mare Iffranesia who does at least have winning form over this minimum trip on a testing surface – she won an Ascot handicap on good to soft ground. I’ll take a chance though with the David Marnane trained Jamesie who has had very little experience on soft ground but earlier in his career proved he could handle it (second at Royal Ascot on soft ground). He was fourth in this last year but could improve with the underfoot conditions counting against some of his rivals.
6:35 Coolmore Canford Cliffs Stakes (Listed) (2yo, Class 1, 7f 100y, 6 runners)
This will be a tough test of stamina for the two-year-olds. It was good to firm when Jim Bolger’s Glamorous Approach made a winning debut here over this trip but she is almost certain to appreciate the testing ground being a daughter of New Approach.
