SHAMROCK AT ROSCOMMON: Shamrock starts the new week at Roscommon and his nap runs in the Listed Lenebane Stakes at 8.30pm.

Ask Vic proved disappointing at Bellewstown yesterday.

Interesting to see Epsom raise the possibility of running the Derby later in the day in a bid to increase Channel 4 viewing figures for the race which were down considerably this year at 1.55 million, less than half the total compared to when it was last shown on the BBC.

Ireland of course made a similar move two years ago, running the Irish Derby at the Curragh at 6.30pm but that was brought forward a little this year to 5.30pm because of RTÉ’s World Cup coverage.

Irish racing is from Roscommon tonight on expected good to yielding ground.

The feature race is the Lenebane Stakes (Listed) and talking of late off times – it’s been being run at 8.30pm.

It looks a competitive renewal with 13 runner set to start. John Oxx has a terrific record in this with four of the last six winners and on that basis alone Qewy is worth looking at. He won the Listed Heritage Stakes at Leopardstown and then ran well in another Listed event at the Curragh last time out when third to Indigo Lady. Any further rain will boost his chances but I feel on balance he may need the ground softer than what’s forecast tonight. However, he is an early market positive on BETDAQ.

Dermot Weld’s Ebeyina made a winning debut at Cork on heavy ground but then was a little disappointing when second of three to Red Rocks Point at Gowran Park when sent off odds on.

The bet might be Dabadiyan who should handle the ground and didn’t run badly in a Group 3 last time out at the Curragh on his first start back after a spell in Meydan.
