NO IRISH RACING ON MONDAY: Racing resumes at Ballinrobe on Tuesday. SHAMROCK looks back on yesterday and ahead to the weekend.

The nap Odeliz finished third in the Group 3 race at Gowran Park won by the favourite Brooch.

I took Brooch on, mainly because she looked too short in the betting for one with so little experience but she arrived late on the scene to win well and extend her winning sequence to three out of three.

After the race, winning trainer Dermot Weld said: “That’s wonderful. It’s Pat’s (Smullen) 100th winner of the season and my 15th Group winner this season. She has progressed nicely through the ranks, winning her maiden then a Listed race and now a Group race. I imagine that will probably be it for the year.”

“She could develop into a Group One filly next year. The two English fillies she beat have been running at the top level.”

We are likely to see Ol’ Man River at the weekend as he is entered up for the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Aidan O’Brien colt is quoted at 14/1 with Ladbrokes.com for next season’s Epsom Derby after impressing on his racecourse debut when winning a maiden at the Curragh last month.

Prior to that he was already a talking horse. Not surprisingly really given he cost a cool €2,850,000 at Goffs !!
