ROSCOMMON: The Irish racing week starts with a mixed card at Roscommon on Monday where the going is heavy and the meeting had to pass a morning inspection.

The good news is the meeting is on. Officials called an inspection on Sunday evening at Roscommon but have found the course to be raceable this morning.

Horse Racing Ireland tweeted: “Following a Turf Club course inspection this morning Roscommon goes ahead today. Going remains Heavy.”

Aidan O’Brien’s Imperial Monarch disappointed in the big race at Woodbine overnight – the Canadian International.

He was a warm order to follow-up his win the Grand Prix de Paris and perfectly positioned during the race but the response was limited when Ryan Moore asked him to pick up and he could finish only sixth, providing another blow to the reputation of the 2012 Classic crop.

At Roscommon today O’Brien saddles a debutant Just Prentending in the opener but on ground as testing as this she may struggle to beat Pearl Of Africa who brings both experience and a liking of these conditions to the table.

She ran well at Galway and the early BETDAQ moves have been positive about her and negative about the O’Brien debutant.
