MIXED DAY SUNDAY: A successful lay but losing nap was the story on Sunday. Fingers crossed Fairyhouse goes ahead on Tuesday.

I was right to take on Don Cossack (2nd 6/5) at Punchestown yesterday.  He didn’t look that resolute in the closing stages but that only repaired some of the damage from the opener when the nap Upazo dropped away very tamely.

Fingers crossed we are back in action at Fairyhouse tomorrow.

The course tweeted today:

Ground Heavy for tomorrow @Fairyhouse with an unsettled forecast. No inspection planned but monitoring situation. Good card and all go!!

Meanwhile, Colbert Station is likely to have just one more run before the John Smith’s Grand National (BETDAQ odds below) following his determined victory over hurdles at Punchestown yesterday.

Trained by Ted Walsh, who saddled Papillon to win the National in 2000, the JP McManus-owned nine-year-old justified favouritism with a fine performance in the ultra-competitive Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas.
