SHAMROCK ON FIVE NAPS OUT OF SIX: Shamrock had an off day yesterday after his glorious Galway and remains on five winning naps (out of six). His best bet today was trading at 11-2 this morning.

Is this a goose or a swan? Charlie Swan, leading trainer at Roscommon, would win the opener with Roman Flight, if this were a Flat race, according to the official ratings.

But Whatever It Takes, a High Chaparral gelding with Tommy Stack, and Bat Masterson for Noel Meade, who likes to farm the early juveniles, are likely dangers.

Why But Why is favourite this morning but Jessica Harrington’s stable form has hit a blip, with five losing favourites in a row in the last 10 days, and nothing on the winner’s board in that time.

I’m also opposing paper-favourite McSwynes Bay (7.50) on the grounds that the McGlinchey yard hasn’t had a winner for more than a year: the consistent Jamsie Hall might be good enough under Paul Carberry.

Charlie Swan had CD-winner Regal Ambition paper favourite in the stayers’ hurdle (6.40) but Ongenstown Lad had moved to the head of the market on Betdaq this morning, with Regal Ambition around the 11-2 mark.

However, the Ongenstown Lad bid to score again after a Sligo win came to grief (unseated rider) at Downpatrick and the handicapper has now caught up with him.

The reverse has happened with Regal Ambition: his mark will probably go up again, on the strength of the Galway win for Gala Dancer after he beat that one on today’s course.

Barry Geraghty’s mount, Fair Dilemma, is on the upgrade, and Barry also has a big chance with Undertheboardwalk (5.40) for Tony Martin, who is 27% with his hurdlers at Roscommon, and Bonny Isle (8.20).

But in Bonny Isle’s race, I fancy we have yet to see the best of Know The Rules (11.5 this morning), getting more than a stone from the market leader and back to chasing from a spell over hurdles.

SHAMROCK’S BETS

NEXT BEST: Undertheboardwalk (5.40 Roscommon)
