SHAMROCK MAKES IT 5 OUT OF 6 NAPS THIS WEEK: Shamrock’s NAPS are as hot as the weather. EMULOUS WON 4/5 made it 5 out of 6 winning naps this week. Can he make it 6 from 7 at the Curragh this afternoon?

Homecoming Queen’s performance in the English 1,000 Guineas was as perplexing as it was impressive. 6396543121001 were her form figures coming into the race and was seemingly vulnerable to some lighter raced fillies given her considerable experience and 25/1 price tag.

Who on earth could have predicted what we saw at Newmarket? A nine length demolition job, winning by even further than Frankel did last season in the colts equivalent. And to top it all – the form is working out really well with fourth placed The Fugue winning the Musidora Stakes at York in style this week. She’s locked at evens on BETDAQ this morning and is a classic exchange conundrum.

If you are laying you have to somehow convince yourself that the Newmarket effort was a freakish effort that she is unlikely to repeat on the firmer ground. And you if are backing her you are going to have exactly the same issues.

Team O’Brien won the 2,000 Guineas with Power yesterday and could easily complete the double.  I am close to thinking this is the best even money shot for a long time, but then I get nervous as she’s never run her best races when there’s been ‘firm’ in the going description. Sorry guys but it’s going to be a no play race for me.

I am of course going to try and preserve the run of naps this week. Emulous won in great fasion on her seasonal debut yesterday so the run is now…..

MONDAY: EMOTIONAL DREAM ** NAP ** WON 6/4
TUESDAY: MILIIKA ** NAP ** WON 1/2
WEDNESDAY: Johannisberger ** NAP ** unplaced
THURSDAY: HARTANI ** NAP ** WON 11/8
FRIDAY: ROMAN FLIGHT ** NAP ** WON 100/30
SATURDAY: EMULOUS ** NAP ** WON 4/5

The only horse to let us down was Johannisberger who was found to be lame after the race.

For the nap I’ll avoid the blindingly obvious So You Think in the Tattersalls Gold Cup and side with Leitir Mor in the opener. He has a lot of smartly bred debutants to contend with but enjoys a massive fitness advantage and chased home the smart Infanta Branca on debut here. The extra furlong will help.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:

NAP: Leitir Mor (1.35 Curragh)
