SHAMROCK LANDS 5/4 WINNING NAP: Shamrock was confident about Stocktons Wing (NAP) (WON 5/4) beating the Mullins favourite yesterday.

Always nice when a plan comes together. Yesterday was all about prices (as it should be) and I argued the case for Stocktons Wing and had the view that he should have been favourite for the opener at Fairyhouse ahead of the Willie Mullins trained favourite Dogora.

Stocktons Wing beat Dogora by 2 1/4 lengths to land the nap and only bet of the day. In doing so, Stocktons Wing further boosted the form of Our Conor who is favourite on BETDAQ at around 6 for the Triumph Hurdle on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival.

There are three graded races on the card at Naas this afternoon and the meeting starts with an interesting runner for Willie Mullins, Upsie, who is partnered by Tony McCoy for boss JP. The French bumper winner makes her debut in Ireland and looks a likely sort but I can’t be backing her at odds-on after an absence of 465 days from the track.

Mikael D’haguenet’s jumping problems appear to be behind him and he should land the first graded race at 2.30, but again, at short odds is not one I’d trust too much, even though he has plenty in hand on official ratings.

For the nap I’m against Outlander in the closing bumper. It’s another Willie Mullins trained horse I’m taking on this week and at around 2.2 on BETDAQ he looks too short in a race full of untapped potential. The double penalty will make life tougher for Outlander and I think Grand Jesture has a cracking chance but in a race full of ‘dark’ horses, a straight forward lay of the favourite seems the way to go.
