7-2 NAP THE SECOND THIS WEEK: Shamrock yesterday landed his nap, Frontier (WON 7-2), following Runshan (WON 5-4) earlier in the week. Here’s his view of Thurles today.

There’s always a good result. I’m talking about the County Hurdle at Thurles today (4.25), which seems to produce good winners to take out of the race and good bets for smart punters in the race.

Backers usually get it right. The last four winners have all been 7-2 or lower, and the trend is to younger and younger horses, with the winning ages reducing year on year: literally 10, 9, 8, 7 and finally 6 last season.

One of those, Powerstation (won in 2008, second in 2007), is back for more but that would be reversing the trend: he’s 11 now.

Let Yourself Go and Aibrean are easy to back but, in fact, both have won returning from long lay-offs. Risk also goes well fresh but there wasn’t an old punt for him this morning; nothing doing at 12.5, as I write.

It’s Let Yourself Go’s first run for Colin Bowe, as it is Bertie’s Dream’s debut for Henry De Bromhead. The one-time Albert Bartlett winner was being well supported this morning.

But Pineau De Re has had a run back on the Flat and looks the danger to Rigour Back Bob, the Tara Hurdle winner who finished in front of Powerstation in the World Hurdle at Cheltenham.

I’ll take Barry Geraghty and Edward O’Grady to come out on top but the so-consistent Pineau De Re deserves a bit each way at 9.4.
