TRUST BALLYDOYLE IN BIG NAVAN FIELDS: Shamrock is relying on Aidan O’Brien to make it pay in big-field races at Navan today. He also hears a whisper for an outsider in the ‘Ring.’

Ballydoyle’s your best bet. The huge fields at Navan today make betting tricky and tipsters are pretty near unanimous about only one horse.

Canary Wharf (3.05) has been racing alongside some of the best of Ballydoyle’s youngsters and could well be up to carrying top weight in the nursery (3.05).

I also like the Galileo colt Frontier (2.35), given tender handling first time out. This race produced a (short-lived as it happens) Epsom Derby favourite in Recital from the same stable last year.

Aidan O’Brien also won the stayers’ handicap on the card (5.15) with Table Mountain in 2010, and Betdaq backers reckon Harrison’s Cave at 6.2 the better of his pair today, with Nantucket Bay 9.0 as I write.

Dorset Square and John Oxx’s Alayir would have to go on your short list, and there’s a whisper for King Of The Ring, formerly Oxx trained and with the top Oxx boy, Ben Curtis, allowed to ride.

With such big fields, it was a surprise to see an odds-on paper favourite, but Fred Fenster (4.05) has come back to the field in this morning’s market.

In any case, I would give Shiramiyna another chance, with Johnny Murtagh back on board, and a tempting 9.6 as I write.
