SHAMROCK BIG RACE SATURDAY: He looks at the big races both sides of the Irish Sea. The Group races at the Curragh and the Ladbrokes sponsored St Leger at Doncaster. What a day!
Let’s deal with the Ladbrokes St Leger first of all. I made my intentions pretty clear earlier in the week that I was in the Leading Light camp for Aidan and Joseph O’Brien and I am sticking with him despite the slightly surprising news that the strong fellow Irish raider Galileo Rock will take his chance after all.
I say surprising as there was a fair amount of rain in the area last night which might well have tipped trainer David Wachman in favour of the Irish St Leger tomorrow.
But Wachman is happy and Galileo Rock travelled across this morning.
Leading Light often hits a flat/lazy patch during his races so you might even want to try and get on in running on BETDAQ at bigger odds but he has the vital huge big tick of stamina next to his name. He won the two mile Queen’s Vase at Royal Ascot and he can win it for the stable that came so close to winning it last with their Triple Crown candidate Camelot.
There are two Group races on the Curragh card today:
2:25 Newbridge Grassroots Festival Renaissance Stakes (Group 3) (3yo+, Class 1, 6f, 13 runners)
Artistic Jewel takes another step-up in class as she goes in search of her hat-trick but has won two Listed races in good style at Haydock and Pontefract and looks a solid win and place option.
3:35 Lanwades Stud Blandford Stakes (Fillies’ Group 2) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 2f, 8 runners)
We have been denied the chance to see Alive Alive Oh on several occasions now as she has been a non runner due to the ground. she romped home when last seen at Navan in May and hopefully she will take her chance as she remains a really exciting prospect for the future.
