INDEPENDENCE DAY AT TIPPERARY: A few days later than July 4th but Independence Day looks the bet of the day in the Listed Excelebration Tipperary Stakes at Tipperary this afternoon.
The David Wachman trained Independence Day looked very impressive when losing his maiden tag at Down Royal last month and can handle the step up to Listed company at Tipperary this afternoon.
The son of Dansili shaped with promise on debut over six furlongs at the Curragh when fourth to Air Force Blue who went on to finish runner-up to Buratino in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
At Down Royal, Independence Day was sent off the 4/5 favourite to build on the promise of his Curragh debut and never gave supporters an anxious moment. He broke smartly and made all winning by five lengths over today’s minimum trip. He has some high profile entries including the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh and the Nunthorpe at York and needs to be winning this to keep those targets on his agenda.
Shrill made a nice winning debut at Cork but the form of that race hasn’t worked out especially well and the fourth horse, Love Is All Around, was beaten even further by Independence Day at Down Royal.
