It was nice to see Florishwells D’ete make a winning debut at Gowran Park yesterday to land the nap.

Elsewhere, Un De Sceaux won as easily as his 1/14 starting price indicated in the featured Red Mills Trial Hurdle (Grade 2).

As always though, it’s disappointing to see such a race become so uncompetitive and as a result we learn precious little from the event.

There are three Grade 2 races at Navan this afternoon and they all have one thing in common. They all have five runners

2:10 Ladbrokes Boyne Hurdle (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 5f, 5 runners)

I’m not sure the evens about Zaidpour tempts me. He’s starting to become an infrequent winner (just one win from last 11 starts) and was very poor at Gowran Park last time out. He’s a lay for me today.

3:10 Flyingbolt Novice Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 1f, 5 runners)

Mallowney was running a big race and belying his 20/1 starting price before falling in the Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase at Leopardstown. He had previously beaten Ned Buntline well at Naas and can bounce back today.

3:45 Ten Up Novice Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 3m, 5 runners)

Foxrock justified favouritism to win a Grade 2 at Naas last time out to beat Sizing Gold by seven lengths. As a result of that he has to give weight away here but is progressive enough to suggest that he will be up to the task.

NAP: Daneking (2.40 Navan). Placed in all three starts over timber, a couple of mistakes could well have cost him a first success last time out. Hopefully those jumping issues have been ironed out by Willie Mullins.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Daneking (2.40 Navan)
LAY: Zaidpour (2.10 Navan)
WIN: Mallowney (3.10 Navan)
WIN: Foxrock (3.45 Navan)
