LADBROKES TROYTOWN DAY: SHAMROCK previews the big card at Navan on Sunday which sees Gordon Elliott saddles an incredible 11 runners in the feature race!

Bellshill was priced prohibitively but seemed to have nothing more than a schooling session to make a winning chase debut at Gowran Park on Saturday at 2/5. I say ‘seemed’ as visibility wasn’t great – at least for TV viewers – so it was reassuring to see him emerge from the mist with a clear advantage after jumping the last.

Willie Mullins can continue the good work with Battleford in the 30 runner opener on the Navan card today. He is making his jumping debut but was top class in bumpers – winning on testing ground on debut at Punchestown and then finishing a nose runner-up to Ballyandy in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival before being narrowly beaten in the Aintree equivalent.

Joey Sasa is twice a bumper winner himself (Down Royal and Galway) but no where near the same league as the selection.

The ‘Monksfield’ Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) at 12.40 sees a Mullins / Elliott skirmish with Livelovelaugh and Death Duty who head the market but I am sweet on the chances of Stretchingthetruth at better odds. The Noel Meade trained runner has won a bumper and maiden hurdle at Punchestown and could easily be up to the step up in grade.

Gordon Elliott bids for a hat-trick in the Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase and boy how he wants to win it again!! He has an astonishing 11 runners.

It looks hugely competitive but I shall have a BETDAQ place interest on Raz De Maree who showed good battling qualities to win the Cork National last time out.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Battleford (12.10 Navan)
NEXT BEST: Stretchingthetruth (12.40 Navan)
PLACE: Raz De Maree (2.20 Navan)
