SHAMROCK AT THE CURRAGH: SHAMROCK previews the two Group races on the card at the Curragh on Sunday and forecasts a good day for trainer John Oxx.

A disappointing day yesterday. The nap, Darwin, was second having travelled well but no match for Ansgar close home.

Back to the Curragh today and the two Group races on the card.

3:15 Meld Stakes (Group 3) (For The Defence Forces Cup) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 2f, 5 runners)

Five runners and a Who’s Who of Irish racing with runners from the Bolger, O’Brien, Stack, Weld and Oxx stables set to do battle. The early BETDAQ market favours Parish Hall who was denied by a neck over course and distance last time out behind Mekong River. I would be surprised if Alive Alive Oh takes her place given she missed a whole series of races earlier in her career because the ground didn’t have some give, so it’s a surprise to see her (at the moment) still set to run. You can argue a good case for any of the remaining four runners but I am going to go with the John Oxx trained Ponfeigh who is lightly raced and still entitled to improve further. He’s won two of his four races and was pitched in at the deepest end of the pool in the Irish Derby when finishing fourth of five to Australia. He ran well for a long way and Group 3 level looks far more attainable.

3:45 Kilboy Estate Stakes (Fillies’ Group 2) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 1f, 7 runners)

Two English raiders in Mango Diva (Sir Michael Stoute) and Odeliz (Karl Burke) can be given chances but I am staying loyal to John Oxx again and My Titania who ran a very solid race at Royal Ascot when fourth to Rizeena in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: My Titania (Curragh 3.45)
NEXT BET: Ponfeigh (Curragh 3.15)
