CLONMEL OIL CHASE: SHAMROCK looks ahead to today’s feature, the Clonmel Oil Chase at 3pm.
Just the five runners in this afternoon’s feature Clonmel Oil Chase but it looks a great renewal and includes last year’s 1-2 in Alpha Des Obeaux and A Toi Phil who were split by five and a half lengths 12 months ago.
The dangers to the two eight-year-old’s may come from the younger Kemboy who is suited by the race conditions and can continue Willie Mullins’ excellent record in the race (three from the last five winners).
Kemboy fell at the first in the Irish Grand National but has proved a revelation since then, winning the Hugh McMahon Memorial Novice Chase at Limerick and then winning a competitive Punchestown handicap chase in grand style in April.
If anything, the Mullins horses are further ahead of Gordon Elliott’s – many of which are needing the run and Kemboy can land this and advertise his claims for the King George.
