ARCTIC TO GO ONE BETTER: Champion Hurdle runner-up Arctic Fire can gain reward for his remarkable consistency by landing an overdue win in the Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle – the feature race on day one.

Nothing has changed overnight to put me off Arctic Fire on today’s Doom Bar Hurdle at Aintree. In fact, Ruby Walsh was positively bullish about this ones chances on Channel 4’s Morning Line.

From an original entry of four, including the Champion Hurdle winner Faugheen, Willie Mullins relies on just Arctic Fire who was a length and half behind his illustrious stable companion at Cheltenham.

Faugheen quite rightly got all the plaudits after the race but it was still an excellent run from 20/1 shot Arctic Fire in second who had Hurricane Fly, Jezki and The New One further behind.

Jezki reappears again to give Ireland a strong hand in this Grade 1 prize but Arctic Fire should again confirm the form as I expect him to be equally effective over this longer trip.

Rock On Ruby looks best of the home challengers and comes here a fresh horse having missed Cheltenham at the 11th hour after a dirty scope.

Harry Fry’s horses are running well again – Bitofapuzzle plundered the Grade 1 mares race at Fairyhouse at the weekend and the trainer said: “”Rock On Ruby is right on his ‘A game’ and it is now all systems go for Aintree. It might be a silver lining that he didn’t run over three miles at Cheltenham.”

I thought the Gordon Elliott trained Taglietelle had place claims for Ireland in the concluding Grade 3 handicap hurdle.

He finished with a rattle up the Cheltenham hill to be a close fourth to Aux Ptits Soins in the Coral Cup and should certainly be suited by the extra three furlongs here.

At Tipperary tonight Hasselnott can build on the promise of a good debut at the Curragh when third (at 14/1) to State Of Emergency. He should again account for Greyscape who was sixth and can put his experience to good use against the remaining debutants.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Arctic Fire (3.25 Aintree)
NEXT BEST: Hasselnott (4.35 Tipperary)
WIN AND PLACE: Taglietelle (5.15 Aintree)
