SHAMROCK PLAYS HIS ACE CARD LATE TONIGHT: And it’s on a debutant in the final race at Fairyhouse.

Napping a debutant is something I do rarely – as by definition there is always an element of guesswork and risk involved but I do think on occasions it is justified.

Tonight being a good example.

In the final race at Fairyhouse I don’t like any of the fillies at the top of the market and am therefore led to either going for a longshot – or taking a calculated risk that the Dermot Weld trained debutant Sierra Sun might be good enough to make a winning debut.

She’s by Hernando out of unraced half-sister to 14f winner Samovar but the key thing in her favour is clearly that the yard are in such irresistible form.

Market clues are obviously something we can look at too. At the time of writing she is around 6 on BETDAQ so you can compare that with the market closer to post time.

The favourite is Circling who showed promise in two starts at the Curragh last season but looks a little short in the market. The David Wachman trained runner was disappointing when a four length second on reappearance at Dundalk – the bare form of that looks quite modest and there is always the possibility that she hasn’t trained on.

Mick Halford’s Diylawa ran OK when third at Naas earlier in the month but did seem to drop back quite tamely in the closing stages.

Jim Bolger’s runner Focas Mor was a close third to Backdrop last time and I think represents the biggest danger to the selection and nap Sierra Sun.
