JUMPING AMBITIONS AT DUNDALK: Ambitious jumping plans have been announced for Dundalk Stadium who were named Racecourse of the Year at the HRI awards this week.

Dundalk were named Racecourse of the Year at this week’s HRI awards which also saw Hurricane Fly being awarded Racehorse of the Year and Willie Mullins and Jonny Murtagh also pick up awards.

Dundalk also announced ambitious plans to become the “world’s first floodlit jumps track” and have already submitted a planning application which is expected to be finalised by the middle of next year and chief executive Jim Martin would be looking at a possible start date in 2016.

Recognising that all-weather jumping had a short-lived life in Britain after several injuries, Martin revealed that Dundalk’s plans will be more revolutionary with the jumping taking place on a new turf course with undersoil heating heating on a surface that drains well. This will then merge with parts of the existing Polytrack course.

The project is estimated to cost €3.5 million.
