DUNDALK PLACE NAP: SHAMROCK heads to Dundalk tonight for his NAP in the Listed race at 7.15pm.

The Patton Stakes over a mile is the feature race on tonight’s Dundalk card and Team O’Brien are out in force.

Aidan (3) and Joseph (2) have five of the eight runners between them with Aidan having the strongest hand as he attempts to win the race for a fourth successive year.

Western Australia, partnered by Ryan Moore, is comfortably top of the ratings and is having his first start since his length third to stable companion Magna Grecia in the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster in November.

Even allowing for him not being at his absolute best he should prove hard to beat here but there is the question mark of him tackling the all-weather surface for the first time.

Playa Del Puente can’t match the proven form of Western Australia but he remains a nice prospect for Mick Halford as he has won twice here from just three starts.

My play is a place bet on him at around 1.62 on BETDAQ. There are three places up for grabs and percentage wise I think that’s a good play on this likely improver, we have the ‘dead eight’ runners and at least three of his rivals look to be outclassed.
