3/1 WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK started his week in the best possible style on Tuesday when his NAP and only bet of the day, SIDRA, WON the final race at Gowran Park at 3/1.

With no Irish racing on Monday I had to wait until the last race at Gowran Park last night for my first bet of the week – but it was well worth the wait as Sidra won really well at a rewarding 3/1.

She won by three lengths with four lengths back to the favourite in third.

Irish action from Fairyhouse on Wednesday and I’m napping in the claimer at 6.25.

Claimers can be risky propositions for punters as it’s all too easy to get sucked in by the official ratings which can end up being unreliable in races which, by there very nature, are for horses with limited ability or who are inconsistent.

In the case of Iron Major, the Eddie Lynam trained runner, he is the top-rated but also comes into this on the back of a good run at the Curragh on Sunday when fourth to Have A Nice Day over the same seven furlong trip as tonight. It’s really hard to see how a reproduction of that effort wouldn’t be easily good enough to land this.

Six of Hearts, now an eleven-year-old, was useful in his day and ran well over this trip two starts ago at Gowran Park. He looks the main danger.
