GROUP RACE TONIGHT AT NAAS: The Blue Wind Stakes is the feature race on the Naas card this evening. It looks a competitive Group 3 but SHAMROCK has found a Nap bet.

My nap yesterday, Davids Park, certainly didn’t get the rub of the green at Killarney and without too much ‘pocket talking’ I think we can be considered somewhat unlucky. He was carried off the bend a little and also impeded inside the final furlong – both incidents almost certainly costing him more than the half length he was beaten by.

We get so used to Group races being uncompetitive affairs that it’s refreshing to see a lively BETDAQ market for the Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Blue Wind Stakes (Fillies’ Group 3) at Naas this evening.

Class horses racing for a good prize (€48k to the winner), a decent field and also an attractive puzzle for punters to get stuck into. The perfect combination.

There’s only 12lb between the whole 10-strong field on official ratings and I think the key to this race is trying to find horses still on the upgrade.

Because, quite unusually for a Group race, quite a few of the runners have seen their form plateau and it’s hard to see where the improvement is going to come from.

That’s certainly not the case for the one at the bottom of the racecard, Tarfasha, who looks the pick of Dermot Weld’s two runners. The stable are in terrific form (7 winners from last 12 runners) and Tarfasha can boost those stats further.

She is lightly raced in the context of the field – having had only three starts but already has experience at Group 3 level. She rounded off last season by finishing third to My Titania in the Park Stakes at the Curragh (beaten six lengths) which was run on good to firm ground but may be even more at home tonight with some give in the ground.

It was yielding at Galway when she landed short odds to win her maiden in style.

The lack of the outing and step up in trip are factors to consider but neither look too big a negatives in my book.

The obvious danger is Aidan O’Brien’s Dazzling who won a Listed race at Navan last time out over today’s trip but didn’t quite live up to expectations last season when stepped up in class and she might struggle at Group level.

NAP: Tarfasha (7.15 Naas)
