And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My Friend, I’ll say it clear,
I’ll state my case, of which I’m certain

I Did It Myyyyyyyyyyy Waaaaaaaay

McKenna to Dowling, Dowling passes back to McKenna, he is moving now, surely this has to be a score, Mckenna shoots, he misses, Dowling grabs the chance, Dowling looks at the ball, the ball looks at Dowling, he catches, he has it now, he takes the shot, its in the BACK OF THE NET and Dowling wins the All Ireland for Ballymacelliott, for Kerry, for Ireland!!!! What a spectacle, what a moment. What A Man!

Its Tuesday Morning here in the world of Sarah and as I sip on my coffee I reflect on the weekend, and what a weekend it was. Liam Dowling and Ballymac Matt won the 2015 Irish Greyhound Derby Final, now that’s a mouthful! Kerry folk are great craic and they know how to celebrate. There was a sing song in the early hours of the morning in HQ and it was only brilliant, the atmosphere was electric. I know every dog deserved to win the Derby but Matt really was impressive. He has been very consistent the whole way through and I cant wait for the Night of Stars now to take place so we can all have another night of epic madness!

I spent some of the night with the Brays from Navan, they were supporting Peregrine Falcon. None of them would so much as put a fiver on the dog in case they put the mockers on him! Intense scenes were among us as we gathered outside the pavillion to watch the race of the year. The roars from the crowd during the night were unreal, especially when Ballydoyle Honey won. What a bitch. The final is here, Liz and I brace ourselves, the traps arise and Farloe Blitz takes a flyer from trap one, Matt gets a dream run from three and Falcon moves left and is in third spot. Cable Bay missed the kick. It’s 1-3-4 into the first bend, Rumble gets a clear run around the first and he is motoring into the back straight and takes over falcon and moves into third. Farloe Blitz has gone three lengths clear, Matt is chasing hard in second. They approach the third bend and Matt closes in on Farloe Blitz, the excitement is too much, the roar from the crowd is building, Rumble and Falcon are battling in behind. It’s the last bend it’s 1-3-6 Farloe Blitz leads into the home straight, they all straighten up, Farloe Blitz is tiring, RUMBLE is powering, he is in the middle of Matt and Farloe Blitz but he switches to the left and loses a few lengths, Falcon is running on strong along the rails, Matt is eating up the ground, will Farloe Blitz hold on? BUT I THINK ITS ALL OVER, HERE COMES MATT, will he get up……………………….. HE DOES IT, MATT IS THE CHAMPION, UP THE KINGDOM. Race cards are flying up into the air and the Dowlings have won the 2015 Irish Greyhound Derby.

I woke up fairly groggy Sunday morning and I was feeling sorry for myself as I had no ticket for the Dublin v Kerry match. My phone rings around one o’clock, its Shane Dowling and guess what news he had for me? ‘I have two hill 16 tickets for you Sarah if you want them’ HOLY GOD…..! Shane came to my rescue and myself and Dad headed to collect the tickets. I drove my car like it was stolen to get in on time for the game. It was well worth getting soaked on hill 16 as Dublin won the All Ireland for the 25th time. I’v had such a wonderful weekend of sport, fun, friends and betting. Anyone who wasn’t at the Derby needs their head examined. It was jammed, and the racing was top class. We were not disappointed, BUT, an important statistic to take note of was that there was 30 men to every woman in Shelbourne Park Saturday night. Great, isn’t it? Well not for me as there could of been 100 men to one woman, I still didn’t pull. Alas, my love affair with the Greyhound Derby and All Ireland has come to an end, my fanview has come to an end for another year and I would like to thank everyone who has been following my blog each week, your support is appreciated.

Now, its time to wrap things up and get ready for the next big event, The Night Of Stars. Make sure you get a ticket, don’t miss this night. I will see you all in Shelbourne as the Billy Mulvaney Snr and Jnr Memorial 600 will commence on Saturday and entries will close on Tuesday, today. This is a 24 dog open event with a winner’s prize of €7,500.

Good luck and god bless.

Sarah
