Perth Scorchers v Sydney Sixers

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s Qualifier time at the Big Bash on Saturday morning as Perth Scorchers face off with Sydney Sixers on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. These two have been by far and away the best two sides in the competition this season, and they fully deserve to be in the top two spots. Perth Scorchers have looked the better side, but there was only one point between them in the end, and you could say that was only due to the Sydney Sixers having a game rained off. Both sides only lost three times each throughout the group stage which is impressive given the swinging nature of T20 franchise cricket.

Back on December 17th, Perth Scorchers played their first game of the Big Bash against the Sixers and won impressively by 38 runs. That meant that the Sixers opened their tournament with back-to-back losses and everyone was wondering had they lost their touch. It’s actually remarkable that they’ve only lost once since – including beating the Scorchers in mid-January. That was a very close game though, and to be honest there really shouldn’t be much between the sides here.

Both sides are very settled, and everyone knows their roles very well within the team. It’s no surprise they both reached the Final last season, and between them have won the last three tournaments. Given the winner goes directly into the Final and the loser goes to what you would call the Semi-Final, we could easily see them in the Final again this season! Sydney Sixers have put together a winning run of six games coming into the playoffs, while Perth have won five of their last six – their only loss coming against the Sixers! We should have a cracker in store.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Because Perth Scorchers topped the table, they have home advantage here which could be very important given it’s hard to see much between the sides. Perth have a great record here, winning six of their seven home games during the group stage. They also beat the Sixers here at the beginning of the tournament. The first inning scores have been 155/9 (won), 133/7 (chased), 135 all out (chased), 142/9 (chased), 171/9 (chased), 146/9 (chased) and 212/5 (won). I would definitely bowl first if I won the toss – batting has looked easier as the tournament has gone on here, and even in the last game here Melbourne Renegades nearly chased down 212 – they only lost by ten runs in the end.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I have maximum respect for both sides here, and I strongly feel we’ll see a very close game. Both sides come into the playoffs in top form, and as I said above I really wouldn’t be surprised to see them end up in the Final together again. In terms of this game, I feel it will be decided on one brilliant bowling or batting performance from someone – we’re talking very fine margins here between two great sides. The toss could even decide the game, with bowling first looking like a small edge here. With this in mind, I’m keeping stakes relatively small but the 2.1 on Sydney Sixers looks good value in my opinion. I make the game 50/50 at best, so the 2.1 offers some value and as we all know, betting is all about getting value!

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We could easily see plenty of flip-flops in the market here, and I really wouldn’t be surprised to see plenty of drama in-running. I feel bowling first will offer a slight edge, however I wouldn’t be rushing to back the side batting first after seeing the last few games here. The first inning scores were high in two of the three games, so we could easily see another nice wicket for batting. Both sides are reliable with the bat and ball, so I’d probably opt to get on the chasing side at the innings break if we had very good batting conditions again – should we see a big score the market will still support that, and then only think about changing in the chase if things are going well. I feel we will see a high scoring game here too – and supporting both sets of openers will be a nice in-running plan as well.
