THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s Big Bash match between Melbourne Stars v Adelaide Strikers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Melbourne Stars v Adelaide Strikers

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Adelaide Strikers are on the charge at the Big Bash, and they have another very winnable game on Thursday morning as they face Melbourne Stars on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Chris Lynn has hit red-hot form and he has fired Adelaide Strikers up to the playoff places with three straight 50’s. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this kind of form from Lynn in the Big Bash, and in the conditions he loves he’s very hard to stop when he gets going. The problem for Adelaide Striker’s is that it’s come at just the wrong time – Lynn leaves the tournament after January the 14th to play in the ILT20 in the UAE.

Even worse for the Adelaide Strikers, they lost Rashid Khan to the SA20 and in a week their starting XI is going to look very weak without their key batter and key bowler. The Big Bash has been very unlucky that the two IPL-owners backed T20 tournaments after decided to go head-to-head with the Big Bash schedule wise, and the result is the Big Bash is losing a lot of stars. Players are going to go where the money is, and that’s the IPL owners really. There’s nothing else to say.

For the Melbourne Stars, they were dealt their massive blow before the tournament even started with Glenn Maxwell ruled out through injury. He has been a huge loss to the balance of their squad and it’s not a surprise that they sit in last place in the table looking at their squad. It is a surprise in the sense that we’re not used to see them there however, and they are in desperate need of a win to get off the bottom. With Adelaide Strikers going to lose Lynn, this is a must win game if they want to stay in the mix for the playoffs.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the fourth Big Bash game here this season, and the Melbourne Stars v Sydney Sixers game might have changed a few opinions on scoring conditions last week. Sydney Sixers were able to chase down the 173/5 from the Melbourne Stars, which is quite a high score to chase down here. They won with one ball left so it was close, and in general if you post 170 here that’s a very strong score to defend. The Melbourne Stars were able to defend 183/5 in the opening game here to win by 38 runs and then the Melbourne Renegades successfully defended 141/7 in the third game. The Strikers batting line-up is in great form, so it probably depends who bats first here as to what kind of score we see.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Nothing much has gone right for the Melbourne Stars this Big Bash, and it’s hard to see past a win for the Adelaide Strikers here. I expected to see them trading shorter than 1.66, and I’m very happy to take those odds. As I said above, no Glenn Maxwell has really had a negative impact on the balance of the Stars squad and they just aren’t playing good cricket this season. I know the Strikers have lost Rashid Khan to the SA20, but they still have the on-fire Chris Lynn for the time being. I feel this is a must win game before he leaves next week if they want to stay in the playoff battle, but they should get the job done here.

The Edge Says:
Three points win Adelaide Strikers to beat Melbourne Stars at 1.66 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I wouldn’t spend too long in the market on Melbourne Stars here because they have been very poor throughout the tournament. However, Adelaide Strikers are without Rashid Khan so if batting conditions are good you might see a decent score from the Stars. I feel the best trading angle here will be supporting the Adelaide Strikers batting – they are playing full of confidence at the moment and Lynn will score quickly too. The Stars bowling hasn’t been good enough, so the Strikers should be able to take full advantage.
