ENGLAND v PAKISTAN: Our new cricket tipster The Edge previews the 1st Test between ENGLAND v PAKISTAN on Wednesday with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

The Edge has been a professional cricket trader for over 12 years, and we are delighted to have his columns on BETDAQ Tips. He provides his best bets on a points scale between 1 and 5, with 5 being a rare max bet.

Because we see so much action in-running on cricket, he will also provide some in-running strategies that could develop in-play and lead to some excellent value bets. The Edge covers all forms of cricket: Test Matches, ODI’s and T20’s but his favourite competition is the Indian Premier League each season.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

England are back in action on Wednesday at Old Trafford as the Test series with Pakistan gets underway. It feels like only a few days ago that England won the final Test to claim the series against the West Indies, and that’s because it is! We’ve seen the ODI side in action against Ireland, with the final ODI taking place on Tuesday at the day before this Test. Old players will say that they used to do this, but now we have two squads!

England have the benefit of match action coming into this series and I think that will have a massive impact on this Test. As we seen in the West Indies series, England weren’t at their best in the 1st Test but grew into the series. I think England win the 1st Test well on top while Pakistan improve as the series goes on.

Broad and Anderson have been in excellent form and will always have a big impact on any game. The decision to drop Broad has long been forgotten but with dry conditions forecast it’ll be very interesting to see what impact spin has on this Test. England have multiple options and again they face difficult decisions on the starting XI.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We did have some showers forecast for Day 1, but the forecast has improved and it now looks like we won’t see anything bar a passing shower in this Test. It’s difficult to see a draw, especially considering how teams bat these days. Even allowing for a shower on Day 1, the time will be made up easily.

With the excellent weather in England at the moment, surely we will see spin play a part at some stage. The surface in Old Trafford provided excellent cricket in the West Indies series. There is something there for the bowlers but it also rewarded good batting. It was just an ideal Test wicket and hopefully we get more of the same.

RECOMMENDED BET:

With the good weather forecast I find it very difficult to see a draw. The market agrees – earlier in the week it was trading around 5.5 and it’s gone out to 7.4 now. I can’t see a draw with the way both these sides play and without any rain delays we are set fair for a result.

England have had the massive advantage of a Test series already and I’m very happy to back them at 1.45 to win the 1st Test. Pakistan have better quality bowlers than the West Indies, but the England bowlers have been excellent and with Pakistan short on match practice, we can easily see a below par batting effort from the visitors. This Test feels like the ideal time to back England.

The Edge Says:
Three points win England to beat Pakistan at 1.45 with BETDAQ Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Unlike the last Test against the West Indies, we won’t see any Day 1 draw plunges that we can lay. That proved very popular. I’m expecting an excellent Test cricket pitch which means we should have plenty of twists and turns over the five days – if it even goes that far.

I like the England trade when Pakistan are batting, as I can see a slow start to the series for Pakistan. Broad and Anderson have been superb and you’d have to expect them to continue their good form. With the draw already 7.4, it’s very difficult to see a chance to lay the draw low and I’d expect that to hit 20.0 before hitting 2.0.

The trading opportunities will come with pressure moments and perhaps cloudy conditions for the bowlers. At the moment, it looks like it’s going to be 22+ degrees and sunny for most of the Test. With the best batting conditions coming on Friday. It’s genuinely a tough decision what to do when winning the toss, bat or bowl first. The best weather is arriving in the middle of the Test at the moment, so I would bowl first.
