AUSTRALIA v INDIA: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s 2nd Test between AUSTRALIA v INDIA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

After a thrilling 1st Test at Adelaide, we move to the MCG for the traditional Boxing Day Test! It’s fair to say the 1st Test was full of incredible scenes, it’s actually hard to believe it finished the way it did. As we went into the third day India found themselves in an excellent position having bowled Australia out for 191 to take a first innings lead. Then the unthinkable happened for India – all out for 36! Their lowest ever Test total.

There’s no coming back from that, and the Test was over quickly. That leaves India in a massive hole given Virat Kohli is going home for the birth of his child, and after having an excellent tour so far India now find themselves without their star man and very much on the backfoot in the Test series after winning the T20 series.

Hazlewood and Cummins absolutely destroyed the Indian batting order and that was the type of win that really sticks in the mind for the rest of the tour. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see a 4-0 series whitewash for Australia now. It will be fascinating to see how India cope without Kohli. I would suggest it will be a very long Test series for India now; although it might not feel like that if the games keep finishing after three days!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

I would expect a reasonably similar pitch for the 2nd Test as we saw in the 1st. There will be something in it for the bowlers but runs will be there if the batsmen get in. A classic Test pitch you might say. The last Test was actually this time in 2019 when Australia hosted New Zealand. Australia went big in the first innings with 467 while New Zealand could only managed 148 and 240 in their two innings. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a very similar score in this Test – although the India bowling impressed me in the 1st Test so perhaps we won’t see 400+.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I can’t see anything bar an Australian win here, and I’m happy to take the 1.45 on offer. The loss of Kohli has produced a huge move in the market, but I don’t think it’s gone far enough. I can see India really struggling to bounce back after being all out for 36 without their star man. The Australian bowlers will be full of confidence too, and I can only see this being one way traffic. If Australia bat first I’d expect a decent score, and perhaps the draw might come in from 7.0 on the back of that but I’m not interested in the draw price even for a trade. Australia all the way here.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We had some incredible market moves on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. in the 1st Test, as you would imagine given what happened! India actually appealed as very good value at odds on after their first innings. I don’t think you could blame anyone for taking the 1.7+ on offer after they got themselves into the lead. I would be very keen to get on Australia here if they batted first however, even with India’s bowlers performing well. This pitch should suit the team batting first, and if that’s Australia then I feel we’ll see big runs.

I wouldn’t be so keen to support the Indian batting after what happened in Adelaide, especially without Kohli. India have had problems at the top of the order for a while now and they don’t appear to be solved. Then without Kohli the middle order now looks very short. I can see them being all out for 250 or thereabouts, and that will present a trading opportunity when the time comes for them to bat. I could be very wrong, but I don’t expect a competitive Test this time around.
