BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s Big Bash game between Adelaide Strikers v Melbourne Renegades with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re back at the Adelaide Oval on Friday morning as the Adelaide Strikers take on the Melbourne Renegades! Given the current world situation with Covid19 and with the biosecurity bubbles, we actually had this exact fixture here on Tuesday! We landed a nice bet with the Strikers and we can do the same again today as the Renegades have been very poor.

It’ll be very interesting to see how the Renegades finish off the season as they are now adrift at the bottom of the table. They aren’t even within touching distance of second last and their batting has been woeful. I say their batting has been woeful but when you see the margins they have been losing by – their bowling is just as bad. They’ve lost by 145 runs, 129 runs, 96 runs and 60 runs the last four times they have bowled first. That’s quite a correct. And even when they have batted first their bowling has given away some good positions.

The Strikers are an average mid-table side in the sense that they don’t do anything brilliantly but they are solid and consistent in each department. It was no surprise they beat the Renegades here recently given the issues the Renegades have, a solid side is always going to come out on top.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The Strikers scored 171/5 here when they batted first on Tuesday and the Renegades were all out for 111 chasing. We saw a similar game before the New Year as the Strikers scored 165/8 and then bowled Perth Scorchers out for 94. In the other game here, 146/9 was chased easily. We can have two types of games here, one when the pitch is good and we see lots of runs and two, when the pitch is slow and low – in the second case you definitely want to bat first and I feel this season you definitely want to win and toss and bat to take advantage of the best batting conditions.

RECOMMENDED BET:

It’s difficult to make a case to back the Renegades to beat anyone given the way they have been playing. The Strikers were totally dominant here the other day too, and I don’t think the market has moved far enough. The 1.65 on the Strikers is still worth backing in my opinion. We could see tricky batting conditions and it will be the better bowling that wins the game – that’s definitely the Strikers and surely the Renegades batting must be very low on confidence too. I feel everything points to a smooth Strikers win here.

The Edge Says: Two points win Adelaide Strikers to beat Melbourne Renegades at 1.65 with BETDAQ Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I have to say this game might be a little more tough to trade than usual on the BETDAQ Betting Exchange for a number of reasons. I see the best in-running angle as getting on the team batting first here, however I still wouldn’t be happy doing that if it was the Renegades given how poorly they have batted so far in the tournament. Plus their bowling is so leaky we could easily see a successful chase even if they managed a par score.

My main trading angle will be going against the Renegades batting, especially their middle order and it will just be a case of reducing stakes if they get to bat first and get the best use of the batting conditions. If the Strikers bat first I would be very happy to have a strong trade on them as I feel we’ll see a score of 170+ given the Renegades bowling.
