INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Rajasthan Royals v Delhi Capitals – game 23 of the IPL. The preview includes a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:
There have been plenty of high scores this week in the IPL, but we move back to Sharjah on Friday where we can expect plenty of runs! Sharjah has offered the best batting conditions of the tournament this year, and with the small boundaries we have yet to see a team score under 200 here. Rajasthan Royals will be delighted to be back here, having won their opening two games here and losing their last three at other venues.
With the batting conditions being so good, the game can sometimes turn into a lottery; one good innings can come from any batsmen of any quality and can change the game. I have to say, it’s not far off the same conditions that we see in Bangalore – and most games have followed the same pattern that we see there.
Delhi produced a very professional display here at the weekend against KKR, and they have really started the tournament well with four wins from five games. Their squad as gelled together well, while the same can’t be said about Rajasthan. Conditions will be a welcome change for Rajasthan though, and might paper over the cracks in their batting.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
As discussed above, the wicket here has been excellent. We’ve had four games here with the first inning scores reading: 216/7 (won by 16 runs), 223/2 (chased), 228/4 (won by 18 runs) and 208/5 (won by 34 runs). That last game was a day game without dew, and scores were expected to drop a little. I would expect another score of 210+ here with anything lower expected to be chased. Once teams get a very big score in the first innings, it’s definitely tougher to chase with the run rate pressure – so I would definitely bat first – even allowing for dew. Once again thankfully, the weather is set fair.
RECOMMENDED BET:
I’m going to keep stakes low here, because I like Delhi but I’m fully aware that batting conditions should bring the teams closer together. In terms of quality though, there’s only one winner for me here and that’s Delhi. They have been impressive this season and I really like them as a team. Rajasthan have struggled since leaving here; but they did produce a remarkable run chase and as I said above, the batting conditions should paper over the cracks in their middle order. For me though, a small bet on Delhi at 1.75 – with an increase if they bat first.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
It was interesting to see how the day game went here because you would have expected batting to be a little tougher. It was, but Mumbai still scored over 200. Hyderabad did only manage to get 174/7 in their innings but as I noted before; they didn’t have the power hitters to suit conditions. That shouldn’t be a problem for these teams, although I would have a lot more confidence in a high score if Delhi bat first.
Even though we had a chase of 223 here, I would still look for a trade on the team batting first – they can make use of the excellent batting conditions and post a nice score. With this being a night game again, we should have dew and you only want to be looking for trades on the batting side. We should have another high scoring game!
