T20 WORLD CUP: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Friday’s T20 World Cup match between INDIA v SCOTLAND with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The T20 World Cup moves back to Dubai on Friday as India take on Scotland. This should be a straightforward win for India who are trading as short as 1.05 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. I don’t think the result is in question today, it’s more a case of how well India will win. The interesting question how is; can India still actually qualify? The answer is yes of course, but I don’t think Hollywood would even write a script as unlikely as that!

Basically, India need to hammer Scotland and Namibia in their final two games. This is likely, and they also have the added advantage of playing Namibia in the final game of the group stages so they might know exactly what they need to do. I say might, because they could already be out by then. After beating Afghanistan on Wednesday, India need Afghanistan to beat New Zealand on Sunday (assuming New Zealand beat Namibia on Friday which is highly likely), meaning New Zealand, Afghanistan and India all finish on six points and it comes down to net run rate then.

India will finish this tournament very strongly, so it is actually likely they have the best net run rate. The big question is can New Zealand beat Afghanistan, because that’s India’s biggest issue – they will go off 1.05 here and 1.05 against Namibia, so India’s fate lies in Afghanistan’s hands.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The toss is unlikely to have a huge impact here because of the gulf in class between the sides, however batting first has almost been a no go in this tournament. I know we have seen India, New Zealand and Pakistan all bat first and win in recent days, but they have played Afghanistan, Scotland and Namibia. Afghanistan didn’t really attack the game against India either, and appeared star stuck – they didn’t bat like themselves. It’s hard to say what a par score here is because if India bat first they’ll likely score 200+ and if Scotland bat first they’ll be happy with 120! Chasing would provide an edge, but surely not even close enough to see Scotland win.

RECOMMENDED BET:

India should win easily here, but at 1.05 there appears to be little value before this game starts. I’m happy to sit this one out before a ball is bowled, and let’s just see what happens in-running and if we get any drama.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, the best in-running trade at this World Cup has been to back the team who bowls first. We have had some heavy dew and chasing has been much easier than batting first. The only way we will see any in-running drama here is if Scotland win the toss and send India into bat, they get into a little bother and post something like 160 and then Scotland start quickly. Scotland do have some top quality batters high in the order, but their middle order is too weak for this standard. The main issue here is if indeed India bat first, we’re probably looking at a score of 200+ just purely because the gulf in class. Hopefully this one gets interesting in-running, but India will have to be well below par!
