INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunrisers Hyderabad v Royal Challengers Bangalore on day three of the IPL. The preview includes a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s Day 3 at the IPL and the tournament is now in full flow! Sunrisers Hyderabad and RCB start their tournament on Monday and RCB fans will be hoping for a change of luck. They have a huge amount of stars in their squad, but they have never gelled as a team and were very poor last year. They finished last with only five wins from their 14 games. Whisper it, but this could be their best chance of winning the tournament!

They will probably make me look stupid now I’ve said that, but my logic is that they have a very tough home ground. Bangalore is so good for batting that it’s very difficult to win games. Teams can chase 12+ an over and the batters don’t have to be world class to win a game. That has been RCB’s downfall, with big batting stars in their Starting XI but short on bowlers. Management has failed them with squad selection.

We should have an excellent game on Monday. Kohli and AB de Villiers will no doubt carry RCB, but they do need the likes of Moeen Ali (if he plays) to carry the tail. Bar the big stars they are lacking in domestic talent and that usually costs IPL teams. Hyderabad have kept their squad and they always have a solid look to them. Warner, Bairstow and Williamson will always give you that look! Rashid Khan will be a huge asset when the wickets slow down.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Once again we have no weather worries at all, which is great. We should have the same report, more or less, for the whole tournament in the UAE.

We are playing at Dubai again today and we had what looked like a very low score in the first innings yesterday. It took Delhi 17 overs to reach 100 runs, and they were six wickets down. They lost early wickets which would have set them back of course but the pitch did look on the slower side. However, we had a crazy last over and they eventually got up to 154/8! It’s only been one game, and Punjab did bowl very well apart from the end. I would go into today with an open mind, but definitely keep an eye on conditions with a view that it could be tricky to bat first. From what I’ve seen so far, you win the toss and bowl.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I’m open to failure here, but I feel RCB will go well this year. The jury is out of course and as it’s only their first game, stakes should be kept to a minimum. Hyderabad are a rock solid side and will be a very good opening test for RCB, but I like the look of their squad this season on these wickets and I’m happy to have a small bet at the odds. I see the game being closer than odds of 2.2 suggest on RCB. I’d have the market closer to 2.0 the pair.

The Edge Says:
One point win Royal Challengers Bangalore to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad at 2.2 with BETDAQ Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

We’re still in the very early stages of the tournament but based on what we’ve seen so far you want to bowl first. I would be happy again to focus on looking for trades on the bowling side first up – it seems we will get dew in the UAE for a lot of games and if the wicket is tough to bat on you want to be on the bowling team until the dew arrives, then switch over to the batting team. That will be the main trading strategy until we see otherwise.

We had a pretty low score here yesterday bar the final overs which really shot it up quickly and I wouldn’t judge the wicket on one game. Take the opening overs to assess conditions – these two sides have some quality batters.
