BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s Big Bash game between Perth Scorchers v Sydney Thunder with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have an absolute cracker on Saturday morning at Perth Stadium as Perth Scorchers take on Sydney Thunder! All cricket bets are 0% commission on the BETDAQ Betting Exchange too, so hopefully we have a good game for trading. Both sides come into this fixture having won their last game here and we should have an excellent game with a very high standard of cricket.

Perth Scorchers are second last in the table, but they have shown a lot of improvement in their last few games and perhaps that has come with their fixtures returning to the Perth Stadium. They will be bitterly disappointed to be in the position they currently hold given they were one of the well fancied sides at the start of the tournament to win, but they could still make the Playoffs if they go on a winning run.

In my opinion, Sydney Thunder have been the best team in the tournament and it’s not a surprise to see them sitting in top position at the moment. Their top three have really found some form and they have been scoring runs for fun. They also looked very reliant on the top three but the lower order has chipped in with some runs too. Their bowling looks solid, and I’d fancy them to get the job done here.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

This will be the fourth game here and if the first three games are anything to go by then you definitely want to bat first. The first inning scores have been 185/3, 183/4 and 167/5 but the wins have been massive. 96 runs, 86 runs and 39 runs. As I said above, both teams have experienced the ground conditions this season and there’s no doubt both will want to bat first. Looking at the stats from last season here too it was an obvious advantage batting first. Scores are reasonably big and the game is won if you bat well first up.

RECOMMENDED BET:

As I said above, I feel Sydney Thunder are the best team in the tournament and I’m very surprised to see them as big as 2.14 here. I know Perth Scorchers have improved in recent games and Jason Roy is an obvious plus but they still sit second last in the table and Sydney Thunder are top. Their batting and bowling have been excellent, and although there seems to be a big bias batting first here I’m still very keen to get on the Thunder at the odds. For me I’d have them as the odds on favourites rather than Perth.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Despite that fact that I really like Sydney Thunder here from a value point of view, the best in-running tactic by far is to support to team batting first. The stats don’t lie, and granted they could perform very poorly and set a below par score – they do have the best use of conditions and the stats clearly say that. If Thunder batted first I would be very confident on them given how their top three have been playing and their lower order can smash a few sixes too.

In terms of other angles, I wouldn’t be keen getting on the chasing team even with a par score. Chasing looks very tough here, and I’d be keen to stay on the bowling side in the second innings when the value opportunities come up. This is a game to keep things simple as the best tactic looks the team batting first trade.
