BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Boxing Day’s Big Bash game between Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have an excellent game at the Carrara Oval in Queensland on Boxing Day morning in the UK as the Sydney Sixers take on the Melbourne Stars. Cricket traders will be delighted to know that all cricket bets are 0% commission today on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, so hopefully we have a great game for trading. These two have had a nice start to the tournament, with Melbourne Stars in an excellent position after three games just sitting one point behind Hobart Hurricanes who have played one game more while Sydney Sixers are only two points behind the Stars.

We should have an excellent game of cricket. This ground is mainly an Australian Football ground, although given the round nature of the pitch we shouldn’t have an uneven ground. The only reason we’d have a short boundary is if they didn’t put the wicket in the middle – we’ll just have to wait and see. The Sixers have impressed me since losing to Hobart on the opening day. Indeed, they should have won that game too as they traded very short in-running.

The Stars have a very strong team however, and they started the tournament strongly with two wins. It has to be said that they were saved by the rain against Perth Scorchers though as they were in a bad position when the game was called off. I feel this is a 50/50 game, however the odds aren’t 50/50 at the moment!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

As I said above, this is an Australian Football stadium so we don’t have too much data to go off. We had two Big Bash games here last season, and the first inning scores finished on 167/7 and 174/4. Neither was chased down, with the second inning scores 145/8 and 169/6. There was 11 and 12 sixes in the two games, showing that the boundary isn’t that small even though it’s not a cricket ground. Today is the first game here, and with 2020 being a crazy year I think the best approach is to go into the game with an open mind and assess conditions in the opening three overs. I would suggest we can expect reasonably similar scores to last season; although that’s a very small sample.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I feel this is a completely 50/50 game so I’m going to side with the Sydney Sixers as a small value bet at 2.1. Just because I feel we should see 2.0 the pair here. Both sides have played well to date, although the Stars got themselves in a hole against Perth – the Sixers also finished very poorly against Hobart. I’m a big fan of the Sixers middle order and I think they can go really well here against the Stars bowling. Stars probably need Stoinis, Fletcher or Maxwell to fire and although one of them probably will, I think the Sixers have enough to beat them. A close game is expected for me, but the Sixers are a shade of value.

The Edge Says:
One point win Sydney Sixers to beat Melbourne Stars at 2.1 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With change comes opportunity. This is the first day of action at this ground, so we might see some crazy market moves as people settle down to the conditions. It’s worth taking your time to fully assess conditions before jumping in and having to reverse out of your position. In terms of tactics, I would have a very open mind on what type of score we’ll see. We didn’t see anyone successfully chase here in the two games, and although that’s a very small sample perhaps it might be angle to get on the team batting first if they start well. Maybe between the 10th and 15th over.

In terms of the teams, Andre Fletcher looks worth taking on at the top of the Stars innings. However Stoinis opens with him and he has fired so beware of that. I feel that the Sixers may lose and early wicket or two but their middle order looks very strong and in good touch too so I’d be keen to support them to bounce back. Maxwell also looks in good touch for the Stars, and he could easily bring you a couple of quick ticks.
