BIG BASH: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s Big Bash game between Sydney Sixers v Perth Scorchers with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We start the weekend with a bang in the Big Bash as Sydney Sixers take on Perth Scorchers! All cricket bets are 0% commission with BETDAQ Betting Exchange today, so fingers crossed we have an excellent game for trading and plenty of green books. The Scorchers have shot up the table over the last couple of weeks, and I think everyone will be happy to see them out of Perth Stadium not just the Sydney Sixers!

With the Scorchers shooting up the table and getting into the mix, we now have a big race for the Playoffs. Things are building nicely, the Sixers are clear at the top after beating the Thunder in the Sydney Derby but there isn’t much at all between the rest excluding Melbourne Renegades at the bottom of the table. This is a massive game for the Scorchers as they don’t want to lose momentum; it will be interesting to see how they get on against the table toppers.

There’s only one more weekend left in the race for the Playoffs, and the Scorchers won’t have another game at the Perth Stadium. The Sixers will be an excellent test for them. I have to say I’m not a huge fan of the Sixers on paper, but credit to them they do get results. Someone always performs with the bat or ball to win the game. An interesting game awaits!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We had a lot of games here at the start of the tournament but then we had a break. The two recent games were played here on Wednesday and Thursday, and we had two successful chases although the first one was stopped short because of the rain. The Sixers were 132/5 chasing 166/6 after 12.4 overs and then Brisbane Heat chased down the 149/6 easily from the Melbourne Renegades. We did see a score of 219/7 here before the New Year, and batting conditions have generally been very good. I would suggest that even though we didn’t see big scores in the last two games, the conditions are still there to score 180+ or even get close to 200 batting first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I like Perth Scorchers at 1.86 here to continue their winning run. It will be interesting to see are they as strong outside the Perth Stadium now, however they have a much stronger side than Sydney Sixers, despite the Sixers being top of the table. The Sixer batting gets the job done, but it’s also reliant on the lower order getting a lot of runs. Vince continues to look out of form and they are having problems at the top of the order. The Scorchers look full of confidence at the moment and they also have the better bowling here which always helps at a ground that’s very good for batting.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As I said above, conditions have been good for batting here so I would always lean towards the batting team. However, as we saw in the last two games here this week the side batting first hasn’t performed. I wouldn’t say chasing is a massive advantage, but it’s certainly one of the easier grounds to chase on. Indeed, we’ve probably seen more successful chases here than anywhere else.

I think we’ll have to approach this game with a “wait and see” approach to how the team batting first starts. We’ve had massive scores here, while if the team batting first got 180 it wouldn’t put me off the chasing team. Sydney Thunder chased down 178/6 here earlier in the season without their big top three scoring either. In terms of players, I would happily be against James Vince again for the Sixers – he hasn’t performed this tournament and probably bats too slow for the conditions anyway.
