SATURDAY IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s IPL double header with the games between Delhi Capitals v Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad v Punjab Kings both with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
IPL Game 36 Delhi Capitals v Rajasthan Royals
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We have our first big double header of the Indian Premier League on Saturday in the UAE and the good news for cricket traders is all cricket bets are 0% Commission on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! We start the day in Abu Dhabi with Delhi Capitals taking on the Rajasthan Royals. I have to say I’m not a fan of the Rajasthan Royals on paper, they have lost their two stars of their side through injury and Covid19. You’ll never replace Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler, but their side looks very light on paper now. However, they started their stint in the UAE against Punjab Kings and won by two runs, scoring 185 and keeping Punjab down to 183/4. That was a decent performance considering their batting looks light.
Delhi Capitals arrived in the UAE top of the table, but that was only by net run rate as they had played one game more than Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings. They were impressive in India however, and they were excellent when the IPL was here last season. These type of conditions should really suit their team and you’d have to expect them to be a force in the Playoffs again. They started their stint here against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and we must remember that Sunrisers Hyderabad sit last in the table so I won’t read too much into their impressive win but it was all one way traffic. I think that was a case of how poor Hyderabad were though! This should be a good game, with new conditions being the first day game in the UAE.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
This will be the third game in Abu Dhabi, however I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the first two games. This is a day game, and we will have very difficult batting conditions. First, we won’t have any dew and second, we should see the pitch play a little lower and slower. Spin might come more into things, and to be honest I would keep a very open mind on what type of conditions we’ll get here until I see the opening three overs. If I won the toss, I’d opt to bat first – I’d suggest the team batting first will have the best use of the batting conditions and have a slight edge.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Delhi Capitals are clear favourites here and for a good reason. They have the better batting and better bowling than Rajasthan, and I’m happy to take the 1.65 on offer. I’m also happy to keep stakes pretty small here because the 1.65 is the shortest priced favourite of the tournament so far in the UAE. However, as I said above conditions will really suit Delhi Capitals in the UAE and they should easily beat this limited Rajasthan side.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
In some of the recent games you have been able to form an in-running strategy with confidence, but I’m not so sure about this game. This is the first day game of the tournament in the UAE and I would take a cautious approach. I’d want to see how the wicket plays in the day, and we have two very difficult levels from the teams here. For example, I don’t have any faith in the Rajasthan batting, so naturally I’d want to be against them even if they had a slight edge by batting first. Delhi have an excellent bowling attack and I can’t see the Rajasthan batting dealing with them, so my main trade here will be getting against Rajasthan when batting, and then the staking will depend on how batting conditions are when we see the wicket.
IPL Game 37 Sunrisers Hyderabad v Punjab Kings
MATCH OVERVIEW:
We move to Sharjah for the second game in our double header today as Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Punjab Kings. These two sides were nailed to the bottom half of the table in India, and it’s very much a recovery job. They started with a loss each with Sunrisers Hyderabad losing to Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings losing to Rajasthan Royals. The Punjab Kings game was much closer however, as Sunrisers Hyderabad could only manage 134/9 with the bat. I think this is an excellent chance for Punjab to notch up a win, as conditions should suit them better.
We’re back at Sharjah here and although this an excellent ground for scoring runs, I’m not sure I trust both these sides. I’m not a fan of the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting in these conditions, I know David Warner is top class, but apart from him if we have high scoring conditions I feel they will feel some runs out there. While the Punjab Kings aren’t a reliable side, they are loaded with hitters and they should be more suited to conditions here. Usually we have very entertaining games at Sharjah and I’m sure this one will be no different.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
We got our first idea of what batting conditions will be like in the game here yesterday, and it’s hard to see them being very different today. Watch out for them using the same wicket if that happens, because a used wicket is naturally bring the scores down. Twitter will be your best news source for this, and also watch out for a heavy dew that we get here. Dew will make a massive difference to the scoring too as it becomes so difficult to bowl. The average score batting first here last season was 178, the highest of the three grounds, but the first four games saw scores of 200+ and then the wicket got tougher to bat on.
RECOMMENDED BET:
Like I said above, I see this has a fantastic chance for the Punjab Kings and I’m confident on them at 1.7. I know high scoring grounds sometimes make the games like a lotto, but Sunrisers Hyderabad just don’t have the batting for these conditions. They will struggle chasing a big score, and they will likely leave runs out there if batting first. Punjab are a side who could be bowled out for 100, but they will keep hitting big here and that’s what you should do at this ground.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
A lot of your in-running strategy will depend on what the wicket is like here, so spend time doing your research here – check Twitter and see if it’s the same wicket as yesterday and if there is dew. If we have an excellent batting wicket then it seems obvious to look for trades on the batting side. I would lower stakes if that was Sunrisers Hyderabad because I don’t trust their batting. I would recommend a little trade against them except the Punjab Kings bowlers aren’t that impressive so it’s better to skip that option. I would expect the Punjab Kings batters to do very well here, conditions should suit their style of play – for example Chris Gayle could miss-hit a six here! That will be my main aim here, looking for trades on Punjab Kings while they are batting.
