IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s IPL game between Lucknow Super Giants v Kolkata Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Lucknow Super Giants v Kolkata Knight Riders

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have another massive double header Saturday at the IPL on BETDAQ Betting Exchange! Punjab Kings take on Rajasthan Royals in the early game, but I’m happy to focus on the second game as Lucknow Super Giants take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Pune. Lucknow Super Giants have had an immense start to their IPL journey – they are going to be aiming for a top two finish in just their first season which is an incredible achievement and a sign that the backroom staff really got the auction right. Although KKR haven’t been at their best this season and sit in the bottom three, they broke their losing run last time out and with Delhi Capitals beating Sunrisers Hyderabad that has left the door open for them to possibly challenge for the Playoffs.

I say possibly because you feel that they probably have to win every game they have left, but hey this is the IPL – anything is possible! The KKR batting looked good in their last game, but you have to feel that their bowling put them in a great position leaving their batters under as little pressure as possible. The KKR batting just haven’t been good enough this season – they have the talent but things just aren’t working for them. The batting stats make for grim reading for KKR, but at least they aren’t as bad as Mumbai Indians! Lucknow Super Giants have been very impressive so far in this tournament – they have a huge amount in their favour today too – their batting looks very solid which means they should be able to cope with their KKR bowling, and while their lack a star to head their bowling attack they are getting the job done.

Over all, Lucknow are just a rock solid side – everything works, everyone knows their role within the side – they are a team which you sometimes can’t say about other sides in these T20 franchise leagues. We should have another good game for trading, but I’d be surprised if Lucknow didn’t win.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re back at Pune today, and I have to say I have enjoyed the games here. With the other three grounds in Mumbai, it’s been nice to have a change – we’re used to the IPL being all over India after all and hopefully it can return that way for next season. Scoring has been pretty consistent here – we have only seen one reasonably low scoring game when Rajasthan Royals scored 144/8 and then RCB were all out for 115 chasing. From the ten games we’ve had here we’ve had two scores over 200 and another score of 198/5. Obviously watch out for a heavy dew, but I would suggest batting first provides an edge looking at the scores this season.

RECOMMENDED BET:

KKR have a very nice batting order on paper, but in practice it doesn’t work. It hasn’t fired, and although it can, I still feel Lucknow will come out on top here. I would have them shorter than 1.87. Lucknow have everything you could ask for in a T20 side – strong openers, strong middle order that can attack and while their bowling isn’t as strong as their batting, it still is reasonably solid. Most of their bowlers average an economy under 7.0 for example. The win in their last game will no doubt give KKR a boost, but I can see Lucknow bringing them back down to reality here. A loss would close the door fully on KKR for the Playoffs, and Lucknow will deliver it.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

There’s a couple of angles to discuss here, and hopefully everything lines up. The Lucknow batting is their strong point, but the KKR bowling is their strong point. I feel conditions might be the big edge as to who wins that battle, and I feel if Lucknow bat first then we can see a pretty big score here. I’d be very keen to get on Lucknow even more so if they bat first – likewise I feel that batting first might give KKR the best platform to put up a decent score, and you could see some nice movement on KKR in the first innings if they bat. I’m confident on the Lucknow win here so I will angle my trading that way, but the best in-running play wll be to back the side batting first.
