THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Saturday’s T20 World Cup clash between New Zealand v Sri Lanka with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have another crunch game at the T20 World Cup on Saturday morning on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. After all the sides in group 1 had played twice, New Zealand sat top with three points and Sri Lanka second with two points because of their net run rate. This group is fascinating, because Ireland beating England threw things wide open earlier in the week. New Zealand got off to a flying start against Australia, but then lost their fixture to rain against Afghanistan further opening up the group because New Zealand would have been expected to win that.

Sri Lanka came into this tournament as the Asia Cup Champions, but they will be viewed as “very beatable” by the likes of New Zealand, Australia and England in this tournament. They couldn’t really handle the Australian side on Tuesday, and I wouldn’t say that Australia have even been that impressive this World Cup. They conceded a massive score to New Zealand in their opening game and collapsed chasing. New Zealand will come into this game as heavy favourites – but there are plenty of layers of New Zealand out there. They are trading 1.46 at the time of writing; perhaps they would be a little shorter if we knew we’d get a 20 over game but with the weather so poor across Australia at the moment I can see why some punters want to take on the favourites. The rain massively helped Ireland beat England this week!

This should be a good game, but you would expect New Zealand to have too much firepower for this Sri Lankan side, especially at a high scoring venue. Fair to say though the way things have worked out in this group; neither side can afford to lose! The pressure is on, and it’s going to be fun to watch.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Thankfully the weather looks lovely in Sydney on Saturday which makes a change from Melbourne recently. I’m sure the ICC have been tearing the hair out at the forecast for this tournament. It is a shame when sides crash out because of the weather, and it would be a big shame if that came back to bite New Zealand. We have had some very good batting conditions. New Zealand will know this ground well too given they played Australia here in their opening game. That wasn’t the only 200+ score we’ve had here either so I would expect good batting conditions. It also looks like a big edge to bat first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

While I expect a good game here, New Zealand at 1.46 is too big to turn down. They have an excellent bowling line-up which should be suited to conditions in Sydney too. If we had a very slow and low turning wicket, then Sri Lanka might come into the game with a big chance but we’ve had some big scores here. That just suits New Zealand in my opinion – they have a better batting line-up firepower wise and the better seam attack. I thought they would be at least 1.4 if not shorter and I’m happy with the 1.46. The only reason I am keeping stakes a little low is because it has looked like an edge to bat first here, so the toss is pretty big.

The Edge Says:
Two points win New Zealand to beat Sri Lanka at 1.46 with Betdaq Exchange.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

I’m going into this game with the feeling that we’ll see a big first inning score, and it has looked tricky to chase here. South Africa and India posted big scores the other day, but then they were played Bangladesh and Netherlands so it’s hard to read fully into the sides not chasing well. New Zealand put up a big first inning score against Australia who collapsed chasing which is a better guide, but again it’s only one game. I would suggest you want to support the side who bats first here though, and hopefully that’s New Zealand because I would be very confident of their batting line-up against this Sri Lankan bowling. I am reduce stakes if Sri Lanka bat first – we could see plenty of flip flops in-running if indeed Sri Lanka bat first.
