THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s 3rd T20 between ENGLAND v SOUTH AFRICA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.
MATCH OVERVIEW:
Another day, another series decider for England! It’s been a very dramatic summer for England, and they have a long way to go way too. We’ve had some superb games for trading on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, and Sunday afternoon at the Rose Bowl should be no different. Once again this is another high pressure game for England. At the start of this tour they would have been expected to win the ODI, T20 and Test series. After a rained off 3rd ODI that meant they had to accept a drawn series, and that follows on from the losses against India in both white ball series’ – you can see why Jos Buttler looks stressed!
Losing to India wouldn’t have been a major surprise – the sides started pretty much close to 2.0 for each game depending on the teams. The market moved a little, but not a huge amount. England have started in the 1.6’s or shorter against South Africa, and another series without a win would see questions asked. It is a T20 World Cup year after all, and Buttler will be feeling the heat after Eoin Morgan retired during the Netherlands series. While this South African side does lack some big names, they do have a lot of talent – they have put up some impressive batting displays already on this tour, and the 96 from Rilee Rossouw off just 55 balls is always going to leave the other team under immense pressure.
The South African bowling unit has looked very solid, and as I have been saying on this tour – England just aren’t firing with the bat at the moment. We finished with a profit in the ODI series backing South Africa, and we’re in profit again backing South Africa in the T20 series. Of course today will really decide the score, but I believe South Africa have offered a huge amount of value so far.
WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:
At the moment, there is a 40% chance of rain in Southampton on Sunday. It is also forecast to be around 25 degrees, so that’s a very difficult forecast to read. It’s definitely a day for the radar – it’s hard to see us not getting a result to be honest, and with temps so high we won’t be off for long even if we do get a shower or two. This wouldn’t have a ground with a huge history in International T20’s, but they did benefit with having the hotel on site during the Covid19 outbreak. The best read of conditions might be the England v India T20 here at the start of the month. India posted 198/8 and England could only manage 148 all out in reply. That was a very big score for this ground though – usually you’re pretty happy with 165 batting first.
RECOMMENDED BET:
As I said above, I believe South Africa have offered a lot of value in this series and I’m happy to back them again here at 2.46 or bigger. I just feel we’ll have another game closer than those odds suggest. I know they collapsed in one game this tour, but that is always going to happen at some stage in white ball cricket these days – sure didn’t England have the same issue against India. The South African batters seem very comfortable though against this England attack, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them post another big score. I’d probably prefer them to bat first, but either way I’m happy with the 2.46.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:
Things could easily change with the forecast by the time we start – with a 40% chance of rain and 25 degrees forecast; it really could go either way. The best thing to do is just keep an eye on the radar, and then any betting edges that can follow up from that. If rain is forecast around match time, it’s always nicer to be on the chasing side. However, I do feel that it suits South Africa more to bat first. The main edge I see here is getting against England while batting – they just haven’t been at their best in the last month or so and they can continue to struggle here.
