ENGLAND v SRI LANKA: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s 3rd ODI between ENGLAND v SRI LANKA with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

It’s the final game on the tour for Sri Lanka as the sides move to Bristol for the 3rd ODI. England have absolutely dominated Sri Lanka for the whole tour so far and they have been starting at very short odds since the 1st T20 win on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Once again the home side are trading around 1.1 to win here, and who can see past an England win given the gulf in class between the sides.

Not only have Sri Lanka have been lacking some talent, they have had players sent home for breaking the bio-secure bubble. England can afford to rest some players and give some players who are relatively new to the squad here, however they can’t afford about the ODI Super League. They now top that table and Sri Lanka sit last. That probably highlights just how poor Sri Lanka have been as they have only managed eight points so far – compare this to Ireland and Netherlands both on 20 points already. England have played the most games and they need to win here really – they lost an ODI against Ireland for example, they shouldn’t be losing games to the likes of Sri Lanka even though the “series” is won. Teams have to start forgetting about the “series” and remember every ODI is worth points.

England have yet to even take a game close. They won the 2nd ODI in 43 overs and that was Sri Lanka’s best batting performance too as they managed 241/9. As I mentioned in my preview, batting conditions at the Oval are always pretty good and it was possible we’d see Sri Lanka get close to 250. Then you look at the England batting and they could have added 100 quite easily. The gulf in class here is huge.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

The long-range forecast for this game is slightly worrying. Who knows what will happen to the weather on the day, but at the moment it looks like we’ll have some rain delays. This is definitely a game to have the radar open in a window on your laptop for most of the game. Batting conditions can be reasonably tough at Bristol in overcast and damp conditions. I feel the average scores again don’t come into the discussion however as we’ll see a pretty low score if Sri Lanka bat first and a pretty high score if England bat first. If Sri Lanka bat first and it’s overcast and cold, we could see a very low score!

RECOMMENDED BET:

England are very short again and there’s no prizes for tipping 1.1 shots! They should win again though, and it should be pretty easy for them. They haven’t even ran a game close, they’ve always finished with a lot of overs to spare. The weather should have an impact here so I like the seam bowlers to be Top England Wicket Taker. Sam Curran took five wickets in the 2nd ODI, he seems in brilliant form and full of confident – I feel he should be favourite here given the likely conditions to suit him so I’m happy to have a small bet at 4.5.

The Edge Says:
Sam Curran Top England Wicket Taker at 4.5 with BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Having watched the three T20’s and two ODI’s, it’s fair to say there aren’t many in-running angles here. It’s hard to see Sri Lanka making a challenge whatever happens. If England bat first it looks like they’ll score such a big score that it will be a 1.01 train, and if Sri Lanka bat first it looks like we’ll see such a low score it will be another 1.01 train! Perhaps the best chance of a “good game” for trading here would be England batting first in very difficult batting conditions with the weather and losing early wickets. Even then, their batting line-up is so strong it’s very hard not to see them scoring 250Ish, and then can Sri Lanka chase that? It doesn’t look that way based off everything we’ve seen so far on this tour. England to hammer Sri Lanka again and whitewash the tour 6-0.
