IPL GAMES 19 and 20: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s double header in the IPL with recommended BETDAQ bets for Chennai Super Kings v Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Capitals.

Game 19 Chennai Super Kings v Royal Challengers Bangalore

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We have another massive double header at the Indian Premier League on Sunday and we start with a top of the table clash at Chennai Super Kings take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Mumbai! RCB have had a perfect start to the tournament with four wins from four games, and they enjoyed the added bonus of having Padikkal scored 101 not out as they chased down 177 here on Thursday without losing a wicket. If Padikkal can get them off to a flying start more times than not, that will give the likes of Maxwell and de Villiers a platform to do some serious damage in the late overs.

This should be an excellent game to be honest. CSK have been just as impressive as RCB – they have won three from four and they have been scoring big runs too. I know batting conditions have been relatively easy in Mumbai, but they have scored 220/3 against KKR and then when we had movement off the wicket they kept Punjab to 106/8. They have seemed like a different team compared to the UAE, even though it’s basically the same XI. Moeen Ali has come in and made a big difference.

With batting conditions so good, it can sometimes make the games turn into something like a “lotto” in the sense that one amazing innings can change the game. I know that applies to every game, but when batting conditions are so good any batsmen can score 50 off 25 balls – that’s when you see some huge movements in-running on BETDAQ Betting Exchange and possibly some low odds gubbed.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

After a few days of batting being very tough, we have gone right back to excellent batting conditions at Mumbai. CSK scored 220/3 here and KKR managed 202 in the chase, then Rajasthan scored 177/6 on Thursday and RCB chased it in 16.3 overs. You have to note that we move to a day game today, and perhaps the wicket might be a little slower because of that. There will be no dew, and it could easily be two paced. That being said I wouldn’t expect a bad wicket for batting here given what we have seen – but I wouldn’t go into the game just assuming we’ll see a big score. With conditions a little unknown because of it being a day game, I would definitely bowl first.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I expect a very even game here between two sides in excellent form. I know the RCB have been impressive in the tournament to date, but they have had some things work out for them. Of course, they have batted superbly but they managed to bat first twice in Chennai and then Rajasthan have been poor – so they could easily be over-hyped. That being said, who doesn’t want to hype up the likes of de Villiers! However, I’m going to have a small bet on CSK at 2.1 here as they look the value in what I have as a 50/50 game. CSK probably have the marginally better bowling, and both sides are in excellent form with the bat.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

A huge amount of your in-running strategy should focus around the batting conditions here. I would keep an open mind and form a few different angles of attack depending on how you see the pitch behaving. I feel it will be good for batting, but do note the change to a day time game changes conditions from the last few games here. With good batting conditions in mind, I would focus most of my trades on the batting side and especially with these two teams as they both look in excellent form with the bat. Neither have very strong bowling, but CSK bowlers look in good form – RCB have won most of their games with good batting however they bowled well in Chennai in fairness.

In terms of player trades, all the star batsmen are in form so I wouldn’t be keen going against them. The market might price in an excellent innings from the key players so perhaps this game won’t offer too much value from that point of view – if the wicket is good for batting the market will expect big runs from the big stars.

Game 20 Sunrisers Hyderabad v Delhi Capitals

MATCH OVERVIEW:

Next we move to Chennai as Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Delhi Capitals. Sunrisers Hyderabad finally got a win under their belts in their last game here after they started the tournament with three losses. Their bowling unit was very impressive against Punjab Kings bowling them out for 120. We’re used to seeing excellent bowling from Hyderabad, but they did under-perform in the early stages of the tournament. Delhi finally managed a win over Mumbai Indians in their last game – impressively keeping them down to 137/9 and then managing the chase well.

Although the Hyderabad bowling was very good in the last game, Punjab did play some silly shots and it will be very interesting to see how they get on here against a very good batting line-up. Delhi have an impressive bowling line-up too, and that’s how they ended up in the Final last season. Their batting comes into the game in good form however as they have had two excellent chases so far chasing 195/4 against Punjab in 18.2 overs and 188/7 against CSK in 18.4 overs. Obviously we will have very difficult conditions in Chennai, and we won’t see a chase like that!

We should actually have a very interesting game here. I know Hyderabad have started a little slowly, but they have a strong side and granted they aren’t going to be topping the table or anything like that – they are a good yardstick to see who is playing well enough to be top two and who won’t make the Playoffs. Hyderabad will likely finished 4th or 5th in the table after the league section ends.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

Batting has been very tricky at Chennai and it’s hard to see that changing. Only RCB have put on an excellent batting display here but that came in a day game when we can sometimes see scores of 200+. It’s going to be a big test for the batters today, as not only do we have tricky batting conditions, we have two good bowling line-ups too. Hyderabad have been a little out of form but they bowled well here the last day and Delhi need their top order to get most of the runs. This will be a fascinating game, and I would definitely bat first to make best use of conditions.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I think the match odds market is pretty bang on here. You couldn’t have Delhi much shorter but they deserve to be favourites. I know Hyderabad improved the last day, but their batting needs to perform better as you’d assume Delhi won’t collapse like Punjab did. The bet I like here is Delhi Most Sixes at 2.1. I know Hyderabad have Bairstow and he can hit plenty of sixes if he gets going, but I believe Delhi should be the favourites in this market. It’s a tricky wicket and sixes are going to be hard to come by, but they have a lot of classic batsmen who like to play good cricket shots. I feel that’s where the sixes will come from, rather than slogging it which won’t work on this wicket.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Much like Mumbai in the early game today, the in-running strategy here again focuses on the wicket and batting conditions. I wouldn’t be on the batting team for long in Chennai as a wicket is only around the corner. It’s actually a very interesting angle in the sense that you feel like you want to be on the team batting first as they can make the best use of conditions, but sometimes it pays to be on the bowling team as the team batting first puts themselves under too much pressure and collapses aiming too high. It’s easy to say “145 is a good score” but when batsmen are used to scoring 160/170 it’s hard to just bat normally in a T20. Punjab definitely gave away their wickets against Hyderabad here.

I would be keen to be against the Delhi lower order as they really need their top order to score the runs, and the same can be said about Hyderabad. The Hyderabad lower order is probably worse than the Delhi one, and with both sides having good bowling attacks I would spend the game looking for trades on the bowling team rather than the batting team.
