SUNDAY IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s IPL Qualifier: Chennai Super Kings v Delhi Capitals with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

After an enthralling IPL Group stage we are down to the Playoffs on Sunday! We kick things off on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with Chennai Super Kings taking on Delhi Capitals in the Qualifier. If you’re not familiar with the IPL Playoffs by now; the winner of this game goes straight into the Final while the loser will play the winner of the Eliminator (which is on Monday) to see who gets the other spot in the final. As you can see, finishing in the top two in the table is a massive advantage, but it’s also fair to say both these sides finished the tournament a little poorly, who will have the momentum today?

I have to say after looking so strong in India and the early part of the UAE games, CSK finished the Group stage very badly. It’s hard to put a finger on what changed, but their batting and bowling was letting them down. Perhaps they took their foot off the pedal because they looked certain of finish top two, but in the end RCB nearly caught them and to be honest, it should be RCB in this game because they had their chance when chasing a reasonably small score against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

I knew we would get a very close game between RCB and Delhi on Friday, and RCB needed a six off the last ball to win. Delhi have been the most consistent side right through this IPL, and as I have been saying in the UAE, conditions here really suit their side. In my view, CSK come into this game out of form despite finishing top two and they are there for the taking.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

I’m sure both these sides are delighted to play in Dubai as Sharjah has looked tricky. I feel although you get two chances at the Final, this is a very high pressure game because the second chance will be in Sharjah against the side who wins on Monday and they will have a better read on conditions. I know everyone has played at Sharjah, but it does take some adjusting too – to be in that mindset already is a small edge in my view. We saw RCB chase down Delhi 164/5 with a six off the last ball here on Friday and I would suggest that 165 is the perfect par score here to be honest. It’s hard to know fully what to do at the toss, but I would lean towards batting first unless there is a heavy dew.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I don’t feel the market is too far wrong here in the sense that I expect a pretty close game, but for me Delhi are the value bet at 1.94. For me CSK come into this game in very poor form, their batters just haven’t fired over the last few games and their bowlers have been poor too. It’s hardly believable they let Rajasthan Royals chase down 189 in Abu Dhabi with 15 balls to spare and since then Delhi held them to 136/5 and Punjab kept them down to 134/6 as well – both games here. In my opinion Delhi have been the best side in the IPL this season and they have been consistent too – they should be much clearer favourites.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Now that we’re into the Playoffs, there are some new elements that might be a factor with your in-play trading. Nerves will certainly play a part, especially for the younger players. These two sides have a lot of experience, and perhaps there is less nerves in this game because the loser isn’t knocked out, but still chasing is always tougher for some reason in the big games! It’s an old cricket saying to win the toss and bat first in a knockout, and although the game has changed a lot, it’s still a little true. I would be keen to get against the CSK batting here given how poor they have been lately, and they might come up short chasing a par score – that could pay handsomely as the market supports them. Delhi have top quality bowling too, and going against CSK when batting could be the best trade here. Of course we’ve been doing this all tournament, but don’t forget to watch out for heavy dew which obviously has a massive impact on the scoring.
