T20 WORLD CUP: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Sunday’s T20 World Cup opener between Bangladesh v Scotland with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Men’s T20 World Cup finally gets underway on Sunday in Oman before moving to the UAE and we have an excellent month of action ahead on BETDAQ Betting Exchange. Before we get to the Super 12 stage, we have the First Round which consists of two groups of four with the top two teams going through for each Group. They are mainly filled with Associates however they are joined by Sri Lanka and Bangladesh which obviously makes life very difficult to get through. Associate cricket is more cut-throat than major International cricket to be honest, usually they are fighting for one spot and while we see the top two go through, the groups have never been tougher.

While we have two games in Group B today, I’m going to focus on Bangladesh v Scotland. There has been a bit of drama in the build-up to this tournament. When it was moved to the UAE, Oman got to host this group stage and they “re-drew” the Groups. Oman definitely got an easier group than before, and it did certainly raise some eyebrows! Everyone will be expecting Bangladesh to top Group B, but Scotland have made some great progress in recent seasons. They have some top hitters now at the top of the order, but they do rely on them with a shaky middle order to follow.

Although Scotland have no doubt improved, they aren’t on the same level as Bangladesh and you’d imagine this will be one way traffic. We have an excellent week ahead though, and we should see some shocks at this stage – it’s just hard to know when because Associate cricket is so cut-throat!

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’ve only ever had two T20’s here and they were in 2019 and 2020. They were also at a low level, so I feel it’s not even worth looking at the scores. Oman played Scotland in an ODI here on the 2nd of October and would you believe it was rained off! I’m really in the dark here as to what to expect pitch wise, however you will be at a slight advantage here as we will get to see Oman v PNG in the early game to get an idea about what to expect with conditions. You would expect this game to be at a much higher level though.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Bangladesh should win here – I know Scotland have made progress – they even beat England in an ODI before Covid19, but Bangladesh should enjoy the conditions in this part of the world and they should outclass this Scotland side. While Scotland do have some impressive batsmen at the top of the order, this game will be won with the game and that is the difference here. The Bangladesh bowling line-up is at a completely different level to Scotland. This is a game for small stakes, but I don’t see any shocks.

The Edge Says:
One point win Bangladesh to beat Scotland at 1.23 with BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

As this is the first day of the tournament, I wouldn’t have too many set plans here. This is definitely a game for small stakes, and small stake trading in-running too. I’d want to see what batting conditions are like in the first game, and remember this second game is likely to be a little different too because it’s under lights, and also the batting will be at a higher standard too. I feel we’ll find more in-running edges as the tournament goes on, but for the time being it’s best to trade based on what you see at the time. It’s really hard to form a pre-off plan for in-play trading here.
