THE EDGE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s 1st T20 between Bangladesh v England with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

Bangladesh and England kick off their T20 series on Thursday, and Bangladesh winning the final ODI has definitely made this series a lot more interesting! England are more or less trading at the same odds on BETDAQ Betting Exchange to win here as they were at the start of the ODI’s. Shakib Al Hasan put in a stellar performance to lead Bangladesh to a win in the final ODI on Sunday, it was just a shame it was a consolation win after England were 2-0 ahead in the three games series.

You’d imagine that the T20’s will bring the sides closer together. The shorter format allows for more mistakes, and in general it gives the weaker side more chance to win. One superb innings for any Bangladesh batsmen puts England under pressure rather than needing two or three batsmen to chip in like in ODI’s. England’s batting failed in the final ODI, but you’d expect them to return to form here – it is hard to focus when you have nothing to play for basically. It could have been a very different story to the ODI series if Malan got out for a duck in the 1st ODI when he carried the side to victory! 196 all out from 326/7 is just classic England these days isn’t it.

Bangladesh can take confidence that the 1st T20 is at the same venue as the final ODI on Sunday. Conditions should suit them again, and they will feel that they have a great chance of winning. We all know England are a top class side, but at the same time I feel the market is underestimating Bangladesh at home. Another interesting game awaits.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

As I said above, we’re bank at Chattogram here and conditions will suit Bangladesh. I know India recorded a massive score of over 400 at this ground in an ODI at the end of last year, but usually it’s slow and low here. Actually not many ODI’s have gone over 250, which is very low these days, and then England couldn’t even chase down the 246. T20 is usually fast and furious, but Bangladesh won’t request that pitch and I’d expect batting to be difficult. It’s hard to know what a par score might be, the last International T20 here was back in 2019. Scores weren’t too high then either, but that’s too far away to read too much into.

RECOMMENDED BET:

I was surprised to see England trading at the same price, and I feel the 2.92 offers a little value on Bangladesh here. As we saw in the 2nd ODI, England can blow Bangladesh away here with superb batting, but at the same time I feel it’s worth backing Bangladesh at the odds. I just expect a closer game than the odds suggest – especially if Bangladesh bat first and get best use of the batting conditions. I’m also happy to keep stakes small – it is hard to be confident taking on England, but the 2.92 is worth a bet in this situation.

The Edge Says:
One point win Bangladesh to beat England at 2.92 with Betdaq Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

Although we had an ODI here at the weekend, it has been a while since we’ve had an International T20 here so I would go into the game with an open minded strategy as regards to how the game will go. I’m expecting a pretty low scoring game after Bangladesh done well in the conditions, and I would just want to confirm that conditions are slow and low in the first three or so overs. If we do indeed get those conditions, I wouldn’t spend long on either batting side and look for trading on either bowling side. Plus, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a low-ish score not chased down, and we could see plenty of drama within the market as the odds bounce around in the chase.
