INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s IPL game between Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

The Edge covers all forms of cricket: Test Matches, ODI’s and T20’s but his favourite competition is the Indian Premier League each season.

MATCH OVERVIEW:

The Indian Premier League moves back to Dubai on Thursday as Chennai Super Kings take on Kolkata Knight Riders. This is a must win game for KKR after losing heavily to Kings XI Punjab on Monday at Sharjah. They now sit out of the top four and they have a poor net run rate too. Punjab have all the momentum with Chris Gayle giving the side such a boost since coming in, but KKR just need to keep winning to fight for the final spot.

It’s a completely different story for CSK. They sit bottom of the table and have generally been disappointing. They’ve lost eight of their 12 games, although they did win their last game impressively here against RCB. It’s hard to put a finger on why CSK have been so bad this season. They have perhaps thrown away a few winning positions and with a competitive league that’s the difference between being last and being in the mix.

We should have a fascinating game here. KKR are currently favourites on BETDAQ Betting Exchange, but they haven’t been playing excellent cricket lately. I think we should have a very close game.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

I must say, the 219/2 from Sunrisers Hyderabad here on Tuesday surprised me. I’m sure it surprised a lot of cricket punters too. The pitches have been slowing down in general in the UAE, and while we’ve seen some brilliant performances to get 20ish over par, I didn’t see another 200+ score coming. I must say though, Dubai is probably the best place for batting now with Sharjah slowing down. It’s hard to put a finger on what might be a par score for this one after seeing the game on Tuesday, but I would win and toss and bat first. It seems to be an advantage to make use of the conditions first up. Thankfully we’re set fair with the weather again.

RECOMMENDED BET:

As noted above, KKR are the favourites here and I think that’s wrong. I’m not a massive fan of CSK by any means, indeed we have made some nice profits going against them in this tournament. However, KKR aren’t exactly an in-form team playing excellent cricket. I would CSK slight favourites, and they look good value to me at 2.06. I fully take on board that they haven’t fired this tournament, but apart from a few performances neither have KKR. They beat Delhi with an incredible innings from Narine; but neither side of that they scored 84/8 and 149/9 (chased very easily). Not many of their XI are in good form, and while CSK haven’t been impressive, I feel they can win this one.

The Edge Says:
Two points win Chennai Super Kings to beat Kolkata Knight Riders at 2.06 on BETDAQ Betting Exchange

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

While I’m not sure what a par score here is after seeing Sunrisers Hyderabad score 219/2 after a few low scoring innings recently, I do feel batting first offers a slight advantage. I would favour the team batting first from a trading point of view, however that has to come with a wealth warning given the batting performances of both these sides.

Both have had collapses and I wouldn’t be majorly confident on looking for trades while either are batting. I think wickets won’t be far away, and while there will certainly be good momentum spots, I wouldn’t stay on the batting side for long. I’d be keen to be against both lower orders. Dhoni isn’t the player he once was, while KKR after Morgan is out have finished poorly. They have been keeping him back because they know this, but maybe he’s best used at three or four given his talent.
