IPL: Our cricket tipster The Edge previews Thursday’s IPL game between Delhi Capitals v Sunrisers Hyderabad with a recommended BETDAQ bet.

Delhi Capitals v Sunrisers Hyderabad

MATCH OVERVIEW:

We’re edging closer to the latter stages of the IPL Group stage now, and we can enjoy Delhi Capitals against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday afternoon. This is a big game in the race for the Playoffs. With two losses in a row to bring Rajasthan Royals back into the mix, there are probably now two spots available but realistically these two sides are fighting for the final Playoff spot! It should be another good game for trading on BETDAQ Betting Exchange with plenty of swings in-play.

Sunrisers Hyderabad fans will be very happy with their season whatever happens from here. To go from being nailed to the bottom of the table last season to challenging for the Playoff spots is an achievement in itself. We still don’t know what happened in the dressing room last season, but they have got the auction right anyway. Compared to Sunrisers Hyderabad fans, Delhi Capital fans won’t be happy. They have been poor this season – their performance level has definitely dipped in Indian conditions compared to the conditions in the UAE when they seemed to have the ideal side. It feels like that was their chance to win an IPL title and it has gone now. Nevertheless, a win here would bring them right back into the mix.

Both sides have been reasonably inconsistent. Both have played nine games, with Sunrisers winning five and losing four, while Delhi have lost five and won four. I actually really like the Delhi batting on paper, but it’s reasonable to suggest they don’t know what their middle order should be. After the openers, I don’t think anyone knows their role and this shows. It will be interesting to see what batting line-up they go with today, and can the Sunrisers bowling control the game.

WEATHER AND PITCH WATCH:

We’re going to enjoy back-to-back games at the Brabourne Stadium as we have another fixture here on Friday. This has been the best scoring ground so far at this tournament, but we have had two very low recent scores. Punjab Kings were bowled out for 115 and then Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to get bowled out for 68 in the game after! Sunrisers Hyderabad would have got a big confidence boost from that game, and a net run rate boost too! In general though the scores have been pretty high here and conditions have favoured the batsmen. RCB put up 170/6 in their next game here after that 68 all out, but that was chased down easily and perhaps they should have aimed higher. I would definitely bowl first here, but I would suggest the side batting first has to aim for 185+.

RECOMMENDED BET:

Delhi Capitals are the marginal favourites here, but there’s only a couple of ticks in it. I feel that there’s an small edge bowling first here, it’s a huge cliché but the pressure of putting up a high score could be the downfall as we have seen here plus you have the added impact of possible dew in the chase too. However before the off, for me the odds are wrong here, and I would have Sunrisers Hyderabad as the marginal favourites. I know Delhi are very strong on paper, but I just feel that they don’t know what their best XI is and that could cost them in the batting department. I’m keen to keep stakes very small here because obviously we’re going to have a close game, but there’s marginal value in the Sunrisers at 2.04 or bigger.

IN-RUNNING STRATEGY:

With Delhi searching for answers in their batting it could pay to take them on if they bat first. We saw with RCB after the collapse, they just wanted to set a solid score and that pretty much cost them the game in the end. You have to really go for it with the bat – I suppose there’s no major difference between 120 all out and 160 because so far chasing that has looked easy, and if we have dew you’re out of the game. I feel bowling first provides the edge here, and hopefully the stars align and we can support the Sunrisers bowling in the first innings.
